Role Overview As the Head of Security and Technical Operations, you will be a critical leader within our technology organization, reporting directly to the CTO. This is a hands-on "player-coach" role responsible for building and leading the team that ensures our platform is both secure and reliable. You will own and mature two core functions: Security Operations (SecOps) and Technical Operations (NOC/SRE-lite). You will be the company’s chief incident commander, responsible for our end-to-end security posture—from threat detection and vulnerability management to incident response. Crucially, you will apply that same operational rigor to our general production health, overseeing our response to all technical incidents, including outages, performance degradations, and functional issues escalated by our Customer Experience (CX) team. This role requires a leader who is passionate about building resilient systems, thrives under pressure, and is obsessive about protecting our platform and our customers with a sense of extreme ownership. Qualifications: You are a great fit for this role if you have: ● Experience: 7-10+ years of combined, hands-on experience in security operations, incident response, and/or technical operations/SRE. This includes at least 2+ years of formal people management experience, with a track record of hiring, mentoring, and leading high-performing technical teams.● Security Expertise:○ Deep expertise in modern security operations (SecOps) in a cloud-native environment (GCP, AWS, or Azure).○ Hands-on experience with threat detection, SIEM, SOAR, and EDR/MDR tooling.○ Proven track record of running a vulnerability management program (scanning, prioritization, remediation).○ Mastery of the security incident response lifecycle (detection, analysis, containment, eradication, recovery, and post-mortem).● Technical Operations Expertise:○ Proven experience running a formal incident management process for non-security events (e.g., outages, performance degradation) and serving as an Incident Commander.○ Experience managing a 24/7 technical operations/NOC function and serving as the final escalation point for customer-reported issues.○ Strong familiarity with modern observability, monitoring, and alerting platforms (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, PagerDuty).● Leadership & Soft Skills:○ A calm, decisive, and methodical demeanor, especially during high-stakes incidents.○ A "player-coach" mentality, with the ability to lead strategy while also diving deep into technical details with your team.○ Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly articulate risk, impact, and remediation plans to technical peers and executive leadership.○ Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001.Responsibilities: In this role, you will be responsible for: ● Team Leadership & Development: Lead, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of security and operations engineers. You will be responsible for hiring, performance management, and the professional growth of your team, fostering a culture of ownership and operational excellence.● Security Operations (SecOps):○ Own and execute our security operations strategy, including threat detection, monitoring, and logging.○ Lead the security incident response (IR) process from detection to resolution and post-mortem, minimizing impact and driving preventative measures.○ Manage our end-to-end vulnerability management program, working with engineering teams to ensure timely remediation.● Technical Operations & Incident Management:○ Design, own, and manage the company-wide incident response process for all production issues (security, reliability, performance, functional).○ Serve as the primary Incident Commander during critical service disruptions.○ Oversee the Technical Operations (NOC) function, acting as the final escalation point for our CX and engineering teams to ensure customer-reported issues are resolved swiftly.● Strategy & Reporting:○ Develop the technical roadmap, set priorities and deliverables, and manage on-call rotations for your team and the broader technology organization.○ Drive a culture of continuous improvement by analyzing incident data and post-mortems to identify and eliminate root causes.○ Partner with Engineering, Product, and CX leaders to ensure the platform is secure and reliable by design.○ Report on key metrics (e.g., MTTR, MTTD, vulnerability counts, uptime) to the CTO and executive team.Why Peerspace? The actual salary will vary depending on experience, skills, and abilities as well as internal equity and market data.
