General Summary

The Associate Attorney provides legal services in support of a defense litigation practice representing corporate clients in matters involving premises liability, personal injury, and complex commercial litigation in Florida state and federal courts. The role is responsible for managing assigned matters, conducting depositions, preparing written client communications and case reports, supporting motion practice, and participating in hearings and other proceedings as needed. The position requires effective organization, reliable deadline management, sound judgment, and strong written and oral communication.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, the associate may provide indirect guidance or task coordination to legal assistants, clerical staff, or interns in connection with case preparation and defense-related activities.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned defense litigation matters involving, not limited to premises liability, personal injury, and complex commercial litigation.
  • Drafts pleadings, written discovery, discovery responses, and related case correspondence.
  • Conducts and defends depositions; prepares deposition outlines, exhibits, and summaries.
  • Drafts motions and supporting memoranda; assists with legal research and analysis to support strategy and filings.
  • Prepares client-facing reports and written communications, including case status updates, evaluations, and recommendations.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and organizes case documentation, including materials commonly used in general liability defense (e.g., incident documentation, claim materials, pleadings, discovery materials, medical and wage-related records when applicable).
  • Tracks deadlines and ensures compliance with Florida and federal court rules, including calendaring and coordination of next steps required to progress matters.
  • Participates in hearings, mediations, case management conferences, and other proceedings; supports oral advocacy through preparation and presentation as assigned.
  • Uses available resources to address unfamiliar issues, including legal research tools, internal knowledge resources, collaboration with colleagues, and supervision protocols; escalates appropriately when needed.
  • Demonstrates reliability through timely work product, proactive communication regarding deadlines, and organized case management across multiple matters.

Education & Experience

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Florida Bar.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of defense litigation experience supporting premises liability, personal injury and/or complex commercial litigation.
  • Deposition experience required.
  • Experience drafting client reports and case evaluations required.

Physical Requirements

  • Travel is required for site inspections, depositions, hearings, IMEs, and provider/expert meetings.
  • Hybrid work arrangement; in -office presence based on case needs and attorney schedule.
  • Extended hours may be required to meet litigation deadlines.
