Paragon Property Management is seeking a dependable Property Maintenance & Field Technician to support our residential rental portfolio across Chicago.
This role combines property inspections, apartment maintenance, light repairs, and field service work across apartment buildings we manage. The position involves frequent travel between properties and requires someone who is organized, reliable, and comfortable working independently in the field.
Our portfolio currently includes approximately 150 apartments located primarily on Chicagos south side, with our office based in the Pilsen neighborhood (Western / Cermak).
This role is ideal for someone with experience as a maintenance technician, apartment maintenance tech, handyman, or facilities technician.
Responsibilities
Property Inspections
- Conduct detailed property inspections using inspection software
- Document property condition with photos and notes
- Verify units meet Paragons rent-ready standards
Rent-Ready & Turnover Verification
- Inspect units after repairs or turnovers
- Identify punch-list items and confirm units are ready for new tenants
Light Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform minor repairs such as lock changes, plumbing fixes, smoke detector installs, thermostat resets, and basic troubleshooting
- Address maintenance work orders assigned by the operations team
- Minor repairs may include plumbing fixes, lock changes, appliance troubleshooting, drywall patching, and other general apartment maintenance tasks
Vendor Coordination & Property Access
- Meet contractors and vendors at properties
- Provide access to units and verify work completion when needed
Field Support
- Install lockboxes and manage property keys
- Assist with eviction lockouts when required
- Conduct preventative property checks when scheduled
- Support onboarding inspections for newly managed properties
Requirements
- 3+ years experience in maintenance, construction, or handyman work
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
- Comfortable performing light repairs and maintenance tasks
- Professional communication with tenants, vendors, and team members
- Strong attention to detail when documenting property conditions
- Ability to work independently and manage time in the field
- Must have basic hand tools commonly used for general maintenance work
- Own a modern smartphone and be comfortable using apps, email, and text for business communication
- Reliable vehicle required for traveling between properties
- Valid driver's license and insurance
- Able to work occasional Saturdays when needed
Compensation & Benefits
- $26 $32 per hour depending on experience
- Full-time W-2 employee
- Minimum 40 hours per week
- 10 days paid time off annually
- 6 paid holidays
- Mileage reimbursement ($0.72 per mile)

Work Structure
- Field-based role traveling between properties across Chicago
- No need to report to the office each morning
- Typical schedule is daytime weekday hours, with occasional Saturday work when needed
