Heavy Duty Mechanic
Position Summary
The Heavy Duty Mechanic plays a critical role in the success of our Service Department. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty equipment, including semi-trucks, commercial trailers, diesel engines, air-brake systems, electrical systems, chassis components, and performing structural and repair welding as needed.
This role also supports DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and accurate documentation of all service work performed.
Key Responsibilities

Diagnose, repair, and maintain:

Heavy-duty trucks and commercial trailers
-
Diesel engines
-
Air-brake systems
-
Electrical systems
-
Suspension, frames, and chassis components
-

Perform welding and fabrication repairs on frames, trailers, brackets, exhaust systems, and related components (MIG, stick, or other methods as required)
-
Conduct DOT-level inspections to ensure equipment meets safety and operational standards

Troubleshoot mechanical issues and determine effective repair solutions

Perform preventative maintenance including fluid changes, brake service, filter replacements, and system inspections
-
Manage labor hours efficiently and work closely with service writers to maintain profitability and workflow

Inspect vehicles for defects, worn parts, structural damage, and performance concerns
-
Document all diagnostics, repairs, welding work, parts used, and service recommendations accurately
-
Communicate repair status, findings, and timelines to supervisors
-
Maintain current certifications and complete required manufacturer or industry training
-
Keep tools, welding equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and safe
-
Maintain dependable attendance and properly use scheduling and payroll applications

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience preferred
-
Welding experience required in a heavy-duty, trailer, or industrial environment
-
Must provide own tools appropriate for the position

Strong technical knowledge of:

Diesel engines

Air-brake systems
-
Commercial trailer components
-
Electrical diagnostics

Welding safety practices
-

Ability to safely perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing, kneeling, and working with heavy parts and equipment

Current diesel or heavy-duty mechanic certifications strongly preferred

Proven track record of quality workmanship, reliability, and efficiency

Positive attitude, strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to learn

Ability to properly use scheduling and payroll applications
