Summary/Objective
Building from its core expertise of administering residential energy efficiency programs, Abode has an established line of business running utility and government programs focused on helping homeowners and small businesses develop and implement plans to electrify and decarbonize their buildings. The Commercial Decarbonization Technical Lead (Commerical Lead) will be responsible for providing in-depth technical assistance to Abode team members consulting with customers and external clients. This is a “player/coach” role, in which the Lead will a) develop consultation protocols and training materials, b) provide an ongoing role providing training, reviewing consultation reports, and helping to ensure quality of those reports, as well as c) providing consultations directly to customers.
This is a terrific opportunity for someone with a strong background in commercial building science and energy efficiency to play a foundational role implementing programs that help realize the climate impacts of electrification.
Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Senior Program Manager and working closely with experienced members of Abode’s decarbonization team, this position will include some or all of the following responsibilities:
- Develop protocols and training materials
The Commercial Lead will develop and implement protocols to conduct virtual and comprehensive on-site assessments that combine the most important elements of traditional commercial energy audits with more holistic electrification and decarbonization opportunities meeting the building owner’s goals. The Lead will train Abode staff or other partners in the use of such protocols.

Provide quality assurance reviews and coaching
The Commercial Lead will conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure consistency and accuracy across commercial consultations conducted by Abode staff and provide coaching to assist team members as they tackle complex projects. The Lead will be the primary technical support for Decarbonization Consultants and other Abode team members for commercial projects.

Conduct decarbonization assessments, the majority of which will be virtual, with commercial building owners, focusing on small-medium businesses
The Commercial Lead will conduct virtual and comprehensive on-site assessments that combine the most important elements of traditional commercial energy audits with more holistic electrification and decarbonization opportunities meeting the building owner’s goals. The Lead will produce a report summarizing these opportunities and a recommended action plan. The Lead will also work with Program Sponsor service providers to ensure that customers are fully leveraging all available resources, incentives, and rebates.

Assist with program outreach and development
The Commercial Lead will serve as a central coordinator across a range of Abode’s decarbonization programs for program elements impacting the team’s ability to provide impactful services to small and medium size commercial clients. These may include:

Building relationships with building owners and stakeholder groups

Conducting virtual and in-person presentations
-
Working collaboratively with partners to develop new or adapt existing educational resources and tools to meet evolving program needs and technology updates, and
-
Other tasks as assigned by your Manager.
Qualifications
Strong candidates for this position will bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:

Strong technical expertise in small-medium commercial building science and energy efficiency, as evidenced by:
- A degree in building science, mechanical engineering, sustainability or other related fields, and/or
- Industry certifications such as CEM, BPI/BPI Multifamily, LEED, or other related credentials
- Previous work in utility energy efficiency programs, construction, or other related businesses

Direct experience working on commercial energy efficiency and decarbonization projects, including site assessments, scoping and contract negotiations, installing measures, and providing project commissioning

Previous experience providing key functional elements of the position, including:

Serving in an advisory, educational, or customer service role providing advice or assistance to commercial customers

Developing and delivering educational or advisory materials and content
-
Building relationships with contractors and/or related industry groups
-
Navigating government or utility incentive programs
-
Demonstrated aptitude for learning industry jargon and technical content and translating it into clear, concise, digestible information.

Effective oral and written communications skills; both 1:1 and in making presentations to groups.

Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese as well as English would be a plus.

Demonstrated aptitude in quickly learning and working with software such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and energy modeling tools.

Calm, even temperament suited to meeting people with different needs and backgrounds where they are.

Adaptable, flexible, collaborative team player that brings a positive can-do attitude.

A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary targeted between $80K and $90K, depending on relevant skills and experience. The Commerical Lead will work primarily out of the employee’s home office along with a mix of visits to client homes and meetings as needed in Abode’s Concord MA office.
