Job Description

The Environmental Service Attendant plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary hospital environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position supports infection prevention efforts by performing routine and specialized cleaning in patient rooms, clinical areas, and common spaces, ensuring all areas meet established cleanliness and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, hallways, and high-touch surfaces to support a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Perform terminal cleaning of discharged patient rooms in strict accordance with hospital protocols and infection control procedures.
  • Safely handle and use cleaning chemicals, equipment, and agents following OSHA guidelines and hospital safety standards.
  • Remove trash, biohazard waste, and soiled linen from designated areas, ensuring proper segregation and disposal.
  • Restock supplies such as soap, paper products, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in patient rooms and common areas.
  • Maintain floors through sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, buffing, waxing, and spot-cleaning, including hallways, waiting rooms, and restrooms.
  • Operate floor care equipment such as scrubbers and power washers to maintain clean and safe surfaces.
  • Support infection control standards by properly disinfecting high-touch surfaces, equipment, and isolation rooms.
  • Use appropriate PPE and follow isolation-room procedures to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to cleaning requests from nursing and clinical staff.
  • Ensure all assigned work areas consistently meet hospital cleanliness, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Make beds, remove trash, and restock supplies as part of daily patient room cleaning and sanitization.
  • Dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment in patient care and common areas as part of routine housekeeping.
  • Communicate respectfully and compassionately with patients, families, and clinical staff while performing cleaning duties.
  • Manage time effectively to complete assigned tasks within established schedules and priorities.

Essential Skills

  • Previous janitorial or housekeeping experience preferred, with healthcare experience considered a plus.
  • Ability to follow detailed cleaning procedures, hospital protocols, and safety guidelines consistently.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices, including proper disinfecting of high-touch surfaces, equipment, and isolation rooms.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning chemicals and equipment in alignment with OSHA standards and facility policies.
  • Competence in floor care, including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, buffing, waxing, and general floor maintenance.
  • Capability to lift, push, and pull equipment and carts as needed to perform daily tasks.
  • Comfort working around patients, staff, and visitors in an active hospital environment.
  • Strong reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail in all aspects of cleaning and service.
  • Effective time management skills to complete assigned duties within designated timeframes.
  • Professional and compassionate communication skills for interacting respectfully with patients, families, and clinical staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with patient room cleaning and sanitization, including daily cleaning, bed-making, trash removal, and restocking supplies.
  • Familiarity with safe chemical and equipment use, including PPE use and proper handling of cleaning agents.
  • Skills in common-area cleaning, including maintaining hallways, waiting rooms, and restrooms.
  • Experience using floor care equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, and power washers.
  • General labor and custodial experience in janitorial, housekeeping, or service roles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while adhering to established procedures and standards.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital setting, working in patient rooms, clinical areas, restrooms, hallways, waiting rooms, and other common spaces. You will regularly use cleaning chemicals and equipment, including mops, vacuums, scrubbers, buffers, and power washers, while following OSHA and facility safety guidelines. The work involves moving carts and equipment, handling trash and biohazard waste, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment as needed to meet infection control standards.

This is a Contract position based out of Pittsburg, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $13.50 - $13.50/hr.
