Electrical Diesel Heavy Equipment Technician

Maryland | Washington, DC | Virginia | Travel up to 50%

Job Summary

TeamGov is seeking an Electrical Diesel Heavy Equipment Technician to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of heavy equipment, hydraulic barrier systems, diesel-powered equipment, electrical controls, and access control systems throughout Maryland, DC, Virginia, and surrounding areas. This field-based role requires strong technical ability in hydraulics, electrical diagnostics, diesel/mechanical systems, and customer-facing service support.

High-Level Responsibilities

· Install, inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic barriers, bollards, gates, access control equipment, diesel-powered systems, and related heavy equipment.

· Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, diesel, and control-system issues using schematics, manuals, meters, pressure gauges, and field diagnostic tools.

· Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, wiring, relays, sensors, control panels, and mechanical assemblies.

· Test and calibrate equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation.

· Maintain accurate service records, repair notes, parts usage, and maintenance documentation.

· Communicate professionally with customers, facility managers, vendors, and internal team members.

Required Skills and Experience

· Hands-on experience with hydraulic systems is strongly preferred, including pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, seals, fluid systems, pressure issues, and leak repair.

· Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including wiring, motors, sensors, relays, low-voltage controls, and control panels.

· Experience with diesel engines, heavy equipment, mechanical repair, field service, or automated barrier/security equipment.

· Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment drawings.

· Proficient with hand tools, power tools, multimeters, pressure gauges, and diagnostic equipment.

· Strong safety mindset, attention to detail, customer service skills, and ability to work independently in the field.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or technical training in diesel, hydraulics, electrical, mechanics, or heavy equipment preferred.

· Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 50% across MD, DC, VA, and nearby states.

· Ability to lift and move equipment, work outdoors, and support secure or restricted facility environments.

· Ability to obtain and maintain required site or federal facility access credentials, if required.

Preferred Background

· Hydraulic barrier systems, wedge barriers, bollards, boom gates, turnstiles, or perimeter security systems.

· Diesel/heavy equipment repair, fleet maintenance, generators, or field service technician experience.

· OSHA, electrical safety, hydraulic systems, diesel mechanic, or manufacturer-specific certifications.
