Job Description

Job Title: Corporate Counsel – Employment, Compliance & Real Estate
Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Hybrid – North New Jersey (3–4 days in office)

About the Role

Seeking a Corporate Counsel to take ownership of employment matters, healthcare compliance, and lease management across a growing multi-location healthcare organization.

This is a hands-on role. You will work directly with leadership, handle legal matters internally, and reduce reliance on outside counsel. The focus is execution, speed, and practical problem-solving—not over-lawyering.

Core Responsibilities

Employment & HR Legal Support

  • Handle employee relations issues, terminations, and escalations

  • Support HR with policies, documentation, and compliance

  • Identify and address wage-and-hour risks (timekeeping, PTO, payroll)

  • Respond to claims, complaints, and agency inquiries

Healthcare Compliance

  • Support compliance across all locations

  • Identify gaps in processes and documentation

  • Implement practical solutions to reduce risk

  • Maintain alignment with regulatory requirements

Real Estate & Lease Management

  • Review and manage commercial leases

  • Track landlord obligations and enforce lease terms

  • Handle landlord issues (repairs, buildouts, compliance)

  • Support lease negotiations and renewals

Litigation & Outside Counsel Coordination

  • Manage smaller matters internally

  • Coordinate with outside counsel on active cases

  • Assist with document collection and case preparation

  • Reduce legal costs by minimizing unnecessary external work

Legal Operations

  • Track legal matters and maintain organized records

  • Support legal budgeting and spend visibility

  • Improve internal processes for handling legal issues

What Success Looks Like

  • Reduced outside counsel spend

  • Faster resolution of HR and operational issues

  • Strong compliance discipline across locations

  • Active control of lease portfolio and landlord accountability

  • Organized and efficient handling of all legal matters

Qualifications

Required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Active bar admission (NY or NJ required)

  • 3–7 years of relevant legal experience

  • Experience in employment law, compliance, or contracts

  • Strong organizational and execution skills

  • Ability to work independently

Preferred

  • Experience in healthcare or multi-location businesses

  • Experience with commercial leases

  • Familiarity with wage-and-hour compliance

  • Prior in-house or operational experience

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $110,000 – $140,000

  • Performance-based bonus

  • Full benefits package

Work Structure

  • Hybrid role (3–4 days in office)

  • Direct collaboration with HR, operations, and leadership

  • Not a remote role

Who Will Succeed

  • Practical, execution-focused mindset

  • Comfortable making decisions

  • Strong problem-solving ability

  • Able to manage multiple priorities

  • Focused on outcomes, not unnecessary process

How to Apply

Submit your resume and include:

  • Experience handling employment or HR-related issues

  • Any lease or contract experience

  • One example of solving a problem independently
