Direct Counsel is seeking a Labor & Employment Associate to join a nationally recognized, full-service law firm with a highly regarded Labor & Employment practice. This is a partner-track opportunity for an associate looking to work on sophisticated employment litigation matters within a collaborative, cross-office team.

Role Overview

The Labor & Employment Associate will focus on defending employers in complex employment litigation, including wage and hour class and collective actions. The role offers meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to work closely with experienced practitioners on high-stakes matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Defend employers in employment litigation matters in state and federal courts

  • Handle wage and hour class and collective actions

  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and other litigation-related filings

  • Conduct legal research and prepare written analyses and memoranda

  • Collaborate with attorneys across offices on multi-jurisdictional matters

  • Participate in case strategy, discovery, depositions, mediations, and hearings

  • Maintain strong client relationships through responsive and professional communication

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school

  • Admission to practice in California

  • 4–6 years of substantive labor and employment litigation defense experience

  • Significant experience with wage and hour class and collective actions

  • Strong academic credentials and excellent legal writing skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across offices and practice groups

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $280,000 – $315,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and qualifications
