School Counselor
REPORTS TO: Director of School Counseling
SCHEDULE: Ten-Month Staff
POSITION SUMMARY: A graduate of an approved counselor education program, the School Counselor guides students through a comprehensive counseling program addressing each student’s academic, career, and personal/social development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Collaborate with fellow counselors to plan, deliver, and evaluate counseling services and the school’s overall counseling program.
Coordinate the two-day freshman orientation program.
- Schedule and lead individual meetings with caseload students.
- Support the Big Sister Program, a peer-mentoring club with monthly meetings and events throughout the year.
- Guide students through problem-solving and conflict resolution.
Administer career-planning assessments to students in grades 9–12.- Meet individually with students to plan course selection.
- Partner with school administration to plan mental health and wellness events for students and parents.
- Support students facing academic or mental health challenges.
Refer students to outside practitioners and serve as liaison with therapists, psychiatrists, and agencies to coordinate care.
Partner with advisors and teachers to address students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.- Develop support plans that help students with learning differences achieve academic success.

- Proficiency with SCOIR and Microsoft Office platforms.

SPECIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an accredited program in school counseling or a closely related field required. State licensure or certification preferred; two years of relevant experience preferred.
