Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our team supporting a federal contract focused on delivering high-quality IT services. This position plays a key role in ensuring operational excellence across Helpdesk services, network and system administration, and enterprise application support. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in cloud technologies, virtualization, automation, and systems engineering, along with a strong background in supporting mission-critical infrastructure in a secure federal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier 3 support for enterprise infrastructure, including Windows and Linux servers, VMware, Microsoft SQL Server, SharePoint, Citrix, storage platforms, and cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
- Design, deploy, secure, and automate Windows and Linux operating systems and related applications.
- Perform engineering and administration tasks for both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and system issues, including firewalls, layer 3 switches, and SAN technologies.
- Develop and implement system automation processes and optimize performance for third-party applications.
- Support backup and recovery strategy development and execution.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
- Draft and revise IT Standard Operating Procedures and contribute to the development of project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Provide after-hours support as needed to maintain system availability and service levels.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, third-party vendors, and internal stakeholders to improve infrastructure systems.
- Ensure all infrastructure monitoring and alerting tools are configured and functioning properly.
- Work within established IT Change Management processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of IT experience, with at least 5 years in a Systems Engineering role.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Hands-on experience with:
- Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure)
- Virtualization (VMware, Citrix)
- Software-defined networking and data centers
- Service-Oriented Architectures
- Microsoft O365 tenant environments
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols and infrastructure components.
- Experience with federal information system requirements, including NIST, FISMA, and FIPS.
- Strong system and network troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of briefing senior leadership.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL tuning and optimization.
- Experience managing infrastructure automation and monitoring systems.
- Prior experience supporting federal agencies is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active certifications in AWS or Microsoft Azure.
