SUMMARY: This position represents the SIGC in a highly professional manner, requiring both technical and interpersonal skills. The position monitors the gaming operation to ensure compliance with the SIGC operating policy and procedures, preserves and protects the assets of the Squaxin Island Tribe, and ensures the integrity of the gaming operation. The position will monitor, inspect, investigate, and report on criminal and administrative incidents involving compliance with the Tribal Gaming Ordinance and Regulations, the Tribal–State Compact, RCW, the SIGC System of Accounting and Internal Controls, the requirements of the National Indian Gaming Commission, and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. This position may be assigned to Licensing, Enforcement, Surveillance, Audit, or IT, depending on the agency's needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Use independent judgment to assess situations and conditions and determine an appropriate course of action.
- Maintain all pertinent information and materials as confidential.
- Monitor activity occurring on gaming property and gaming-controlled locations.
- Research gaming internal controls and regulations, and apply necessary regulatory response to specific incidents.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable tribal, federal, and state laws and regulations by monitoring, observing, reporting, and taking appropriate action. Detect and investigate regulatory issues, including but not limited to game protection, rules of play, irregularities, and relevant laws.
- Perform audits and inspections on operations to determine compliance with the system of internal controls and regulations.
- Write detailed, accurate, and thorough Incident Reports on all incidents that occur on the property
- Assist the Internal Auditor, Licensing, and IT team in performing the functions of those units.
- Utilize and maintain systems, logs, and other means to track and report gaming incidents and activities that are not normal to the operation or are in violation of specific gaming procedures and regulations.
- Report immediately all observed violations (Administrative or Criminal) to the Director/Operations Manager in accordance with Tribal Gaming Agency policies and procedures.
- Enforce applicable law while maintaining a positive relationship with those impacted. Maintain positive relations with employees, management, outside organizations/, agencies, and political entities.
- Review all TLS certification and gaming reports to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Assist in the daily routines of office maintenance, phones, filing, and organization for the effective and efficient operation of the agency. Gather statistical data and complete any other special projects as directed by the Director/Deputy Director.
- Interact with Law Enforcement and other regulatory agencies to ensure objectives are met.
- Respectfully interact with the public and licensees, maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Perform shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays as directed and as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This role does not include any supervisory duties.

Must have the ability to read and interpret rules and laws. Must be able to use a computer to communicate by email and type reports. Must be able to articulate accurately and concisely incidents and events in writing as well as verbally. Must have the ability to interact with team members as well as the public. A basic knowledge of gaming is required. A basic knowledge of computers and technology is required. Must possess the ability to learn and improve.
The candidate will be required to learn rules and regulations and follow policies and procedures. Candidates will be exposed to new technology and be required to research and learn new concepts.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a relevant field and 1 year prior table game, casino security and/or regulatory/investigative experience in law enforcement and/or military OR Associate of Arts Degree in Business or relevant field and three years prior table game, casino security and/or regulatory/investigative experience in law enforcement and/or military OR High School Diploma/GED and five years prior table game, casino security and/or regulatory/investigative experience in law enforcement. The successful applicant will be required to complete the Squaxin Island Gaming Commission’s training program. Previous point of sales, TLS, and MIS experience is preferred.
A skills test will be administered as part of the interview
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s license. Incumbents must pass a background investigation and meet the criteria for a gaming license.
OTHER: A skills assessment will be required for this position. The test will be conducted at the time of the interview.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to tobacco smoke. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
