Reports To: Store Manager
Work Week: Up to 40 hours per week. Must be available nights, weekends and holidays
Position Summary: The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations of the store to ensure efficient, profitable, and customer-focused performance. This role helps lead and motivate team members, maintains compliance with company standards and policies, and ensures that merchandising, inventory, and service goals are met or exceeded.
Key Responsibilities: Operations & Leadership
- Assist the Store Manager in managing daily store operations, including opening and closing procedures.
- Supervise and support department managers and associates to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to company standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized shopping environment.
- Ensure all departments are properly stocked, merchandised, and rotated according to planograms and seasonal needs. Oversee cash handling and loss prevention procedures.
Customer Service
- Ensure excellent customer service by responding promptly and effectively to customer concerns and requests.
- Promote a customer-first culture among all team members.
- Monitor service levels to ensure positive shopping experiences.
Staff Management & Training
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training of employees.
- Schedule staff and monitor labor hours to meet business needs and budget goals.
- Coach and develop team members to improve performance and engagement.
- Enforce company policies and performance standards.
Sales, Profit & Inventory Control
- Help achieve sales and margin goals through effective merchandising, promotions, and expense control.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate ordering to minimize shrink and overstock.
- Analyze sales reports and help implement strategies to drive profitability.
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and product presentation. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
- Maintain compliance with labor laws, safety standards, and company policies.
- Support emergency and safety protocols as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 2+ years of retail or grocery management experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of merchandising, inventory management, and shrink control.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer applications (Excel, Word, Email).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for extended periods.
- Lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions as needed.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced retail environment with frequent customer interaction, varied temperatures(coolers/freezers), and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals and equipment noise.
