Role and Responsibilities:
- This position will be responsible for serving as the primary data solutions architect for a data services/visualization platform for FHWA Application Environment. The architect will lead the design of data lakes, data warehouses, and visualization services and work with data/cloud engineers to design data pipelines to ingest, clean and transform both batch and streaming data.
- Leading the design of data warehouses, data lakes and datamarts including both the logical and physical models.
- Assist in soliciting and assessing requirements for the data warehouses/data lakes among data consumers/analysts, visualization specialists, programmers, and engineers.
- Optimizing the design and tuning the performance of data warehouses for efficient loading and high performance for data queries.
- Facilitating change control processes for the data model within the repositories including integrating with CI/CD pipelines.
- Designing and implementing a metadata repository to be used for data discovery/catalog services across the enterprise.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other members of the technical team.
Required Skills:
- 10+ years of experience architecting enterprise data systems or large-scale analytical platforms.
- Expertise in Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, and SQL Server (on-prem and managed instances).
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL, with experience building ETL/ELT processes and automation frameworks.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, GitHub, Azure DevOps, and integration with Power BI datasets.
- Demonstrated experience in data governance, lineage, and metadata management.
- Ability to engage senior stakeholders, translate requirements, and drive modernization strategy
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with federal data compliance standards (e.g., Evidence Act, Section 508, data retention, and auditability).
- Experience designing Datamarts for use by BI tools like Tableau and PowerBI Experience working with Azure AD and/or Okta authentication, MFA policies, and role-based data access control.
- Certification: Azure Solutions Architect or similar
