Job DescriptionJob Summary — Datacenter Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Datacenter Engineer to manage datacenter operations across multiple environments. The role includes equipment placement, asset management, capacity planning, and ensuring compliance with industry best practices. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical knowledge, proactive problem-solving, and effective cross-functional collaboration.

  • Experience Level: Mid to Senior (8–10 years)
  • Core focus: Equipment placement, DCIM, asset capacity management

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment placement: Develop and manage placement processes across multiple data centers in line with policies and procedures.
  • Coordination: Communicate provisioning and deployment plans to all supporting groups and stakeholders.
  • DCIM management: Implement and use Data Center Infrastructure Management tools to monitor infrastructure and manage changes.
  • Asset management: Maintain IT asset records within the ITAM structure and conduct periodic audits per guidelines.
  • Capacity planning: Support capacity planning, coordinate resource allocation, and produce regular capacity management reports.
  • Technical application: Apply knowledge of network topology, redundant power systems, structured cabling, HVAC, and rack cooling to inform placement and planning decisions.
  • Reporting automation: Build and maintain databases for regular and ad-hoc reporting; automate reporting workflows where possible.
  • Collaboration: Work with IT teams to ensure operations align with business and IT infrastructure goals.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of hands-on experience in network engineering and datacenter operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+) or willingness to obtain within the first year.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical power systems, multiple power phases, and power distribution for data center design.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access) and ability to create technical reports and automated reporting workflows.
  • Experience with DCIM tools and IT asset management processes, including audits.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to resolve problems under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with management, technical staff, and vendors.
  • Strong analytical, planning, SOP development, and task-monitoring skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, BICSI, Uptime Institute credentials, or other data center-specific certifications.
  • Experience with modern data center architectures, cloud computing, blade systems, and virtualization.
  • Familiarity with Crystal Reports or equivalent reporting tools and experience automating capacity management reports.
  • Practical experience with HVAC and rack cooling design for high-density deployments.
  • Experience implementing and optimizing DCIM processes across large, multi-site environments.
