The organization prioritizes social-emotional well-being alongside programming, with a collaborative team structure that connects care staff, unit leadership, and the Health Center.

  • Travel stipend up to 400 reimbursement for travel / flight costs

Job Summary

A professional leadership role blending child development, staff coaching, and family communication—not a clinical or therapy position. The Camper Care Specialist supports counselor effectiveness, guides campers through social-emotional challenges, and bridges communication between families and camp leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in all pre-camp staff training; review camper profiles with unit leaders and counselors during bunk meetings

  • Prepare counseling staff to navigate homesickness, peer conflict, anxiety, and behavioral concerns through guided discussion and role play

  • Attend nightly unit meetings to assess camper dynamics and coach staff on group management and social conflict resolution

  • Lead three scheduled Lunch & Learn sessions per unit across the summer

  • Serve as the primary family contact for camper care concerns during the season; respond to parent calls and emails through camp systems only

  • Reach out to all new camper families during the first week; follow up after Health Center stays when appropriate

  • Review Daily Camper Reports (DCRs) and meet individually with campers requiring additional social-emotional support

  • Collaborate with leadership before escalating mental health concerns; partner with the Health Center to distinguish mental vs. physical health needs

  • Attend Camper Care Team meetings (Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday during 1st period) and additional sessions as directed

  • Maintain strong professional boundaries, discretion, and sound judgment throughout the residential season

Minimum Requirements

  • Must meet one of the following: active MSW, LCSW, or equivalent state licensure (2+ years working with children/adolescents); certified teacher with 3+ years of experience; or certified school guidance counselor with 3+ years of experience

  • Demonstrated experience supporting youth social, emotional, and behavioral development

  • Strong professional communication skills with both families and colleagues

  • Able to uphold appropriate professional boundaries in a residential camp environment

  • Available for the full summer season including pre-camp training and all camp dates

  • Minimum two professional references required; at least one must be a current or recent direct supervisor

Ideal Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a residential camp, school, or youth-serving community setting

  • Skilled at coaching adults—elevating staff performance without taking over their role

  • Emotionally intelligent and steady; exercises sound judgment in ambiguous situations

  • Genuinely energized by being part of a camp community beyond formal responsibilities
