Our Client is seeking a motivated Electrical Substation Design Engineer to join their team and support the planning, design, and delivery of high‑quality substation projects. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy collaborative engineering environments, are passionate about safety, and are looking to grow their technical expertise in power systems design.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and model safe work practices in alignment with corporate safety standards.
- Support the department’s goal of eliminating workplace injuries and preventable driving incidents.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to drive efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate technical project information— including studies, calculations, sketches, and design data— to support the engineering and construction of electrical substation facilities.
- Partner with multiple engineering disciplines to assess existing infrastructure and develop conceptual design solutions.
- Develop detailed electrical substation design drawings using 3D design tools, covering both indoor and outdoor equipment such as relays, meters, annunciators, breakers, transformers, batteries, and switchgear.
- Produce technical documentation including single-line diagrams, schematics, control room layouts, grounding plans, conduit designs, and general arrangement drawings.
- Prepare bills of materials, conduit/circuit schedules, technical reports, and project presentations using standard office applications.
- Participate in and lead design review meetings with internal stakeholders.
- Deliver accurate, high‑quality design packages on schedule and within budget.
- Travel up to 10% as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or expected graduation by June 2026), or a combination of education and relevant design/drafting experience totaling six years.
- Alternatively, four years of combined education and experience, including at least two years in a similar design drafting role.
- A valid Class C driver’s license (or higher) by the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industry‑standard engineering procedures and design workflows.
- EIT or PE certification.
- Hands‑on experience with substation design tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or Bentley 3D.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
