Job Summary.
The Assistant Manager will work closely with the Farmstand Manager to oversee retail operations, staff supervision, inventory management and customer service. This role requires a hands-on approach, enthusiasm for local food and strong organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities.
Retail Operations & Customer Service:
- Assist in the daily operations of the farm stand, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering questions about the farm and it's fruit as well as seasonal offering and activities.
- Maintain and inviting, well-stocked and clean retail space, including attractive product displays.
- Operate the POS system, process transactions and handle cash/credit payments accurately.
- Educate customers about the farm's history, growing practices and community engagement.
Inventory & Product Management:
- Assist in receiving, stocking and rotating farm grown fruit, bakery products and other farm stand items.
- Monitor inventory levels, track sales trends and communicate with the Manager regarding restocking needs.
- Help ensure all produce and goods are displayed at peak freshness and quality.
- Collaborate with the farm team to coordinate availability of seasonal items.
Staff Supervision & Leadership:
- Support and mentor farm stand staff and seasonal employees, many of whom are high school age experiencing their first employment.
- Assist in scheduling, training and ensuring team members follow farm stand policies and procedures.
- Lead by example with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Marketing:
- Assist in implementing promotions, sales events and seasonal displays.
- Support social media efforts by providing content ideas related to farm stand activities.
- Help coordinate farm stand events, tastings and community outreach initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Retail, farmers market or farm stand experience.
- Passion for local food, agriculture and customer service.
- Strong communication and leadership skill.
- Ability to work in a fast pace environment and lift up to 50lbs.
- Basic knowledge of POS systems and inventory management.
- Availability to work weekends and some holidays is a must.
