Systems Technician (2nd Shift)

Under the direction of the Sr. Automation Engineer, the System Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of computer-based semi and automated equipment. This includes Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), Facility Management System (Building Automation Systems, Blue Mountain RAM), and other integrated control and monitoring platforms. This position will be the primary person responsible for monitoring, acknowledging, and documenting FMS alarms.

Essential Functions:

This description is intended to be illustrative of the major duties performed by the employee assigned to this position.

  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on systems including PLCs, HMIs, BAS, and other computerized control systems.
  • Support the integration, calibration, and operation of automated and semi-automated aseptic filling equipment.
  • Assist in the configuration, testing, and documentation of software and hardware for control systems.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues to minimize downtime and ensure reliable system operation.
  • Maintain and update records in Blue Mountain Ram including work orders, equipment history, and calibration schedules.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and IT to support new equipment commissioning and upgrades.
  • Ensure data integrity and secure handling of electronic records and control system parameters.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and pharmaceutical regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, EMA, ISO).
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
  • Provide FMS alarm monitoring, response, and acknowledgement within 24 hours (weekends exception)
  • Communicate and collaborate cross-functionally to assist the F & E team in solving operational issues.
  • Report appropriate project and work task status to the Sr. Automation Engineer.
  • Support the investigation and troubleshoot equipment system failures and complete appropriate deviation and CAPA action items assigned.
  • This role may require off-shift and weekend work.
  • Adheres to all applicable procedures, cGMPs, company policies and any other quality or regulatory requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Experience and Necessary Competencies:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in aseptic processing facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMIs, and BAS (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls).
  • Understanding of GMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and data integrity principles.
  • Strong diagnostic and analytical skills for both hardware and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/control schematics and technical documentation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently or in a cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communications skills including strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent personal coaching skills.
  • Strong results orientation.
  • Excellent matrix management skills and organizational skills.
  • Good understanding of ladder logic and its underlying principles.
  • Good Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Proficient in Blue Mountain BMRAM CMMS preferred.
  • General understanding of pharma automation and utilities preferred.
  • Understanding of 503B regulatory requirements, cGMP standards, and USP guidelines is a plus!
  • Proficient written, verbal and oral English communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools including Outlook, Microsoft, and Excel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds periodically.
  • Ability to maintain a gowning qualification.

Shift: Monday-Friday 3pm-1:30am (2nd shift)
