Rise Neurorehab Institute is a future-forward nonprofit neurorehab organization committed to identifying and removing the barriers that prevent individuals from receiving the post-acute care they need and deserve, all while helping to regain function, reignite courage, and rekindle hope after neurological injury or illness.

Rise is building a new model of neurological care in Georgia. Opening in Sandy Springs, GA in Winter 2027, our initial multi-disciplinary outpatient facility is only the beginning. Rise is also developing a comprehensive, state-of-the-art neurorehabilitation residential facility — a multi-acre campus designed to unite rehabilitation medicine and therapies with similar-missioned community organizations in a way that has never existed in our region. This future home will offer 75+ beds for specialized residential rehabilitation, comprehensive care from rehab experts, cutting-edge technology and innovation, and community programs that provide a complete continuum of post-acute care for individuals and families throughout their recovery journey.

Physician— (PM&R / Physiatrist) — Medical Director, Outpatient Program

As the Physician (PM&R/Physiatrist) and Medical Director of Rise Neurorehab Institute’s outpatient program, you’ll provide comprehensive outpatient physiatry care to individuals recovering from brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and other complex neurological conditions — working with both pediatric (age 8+) and adult patients. You’ll deliver evidence-based spasticity management and neurorehabilitation medicine, including procedural interventions such as chemodenervation and intrathecal baclofen pump management, while providing clinical supervision to our Nurse Practitioner and carrying CARF-defined responsibility for medical quality, clinical program oversight, and interdisciplinary team leadership. Job Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive physiatry evaluations of patients through history and physical examination, review of diagnostic and imaging studies, and clinical assessment of functional, musculoskeletal, and neurological status, integrating findings to establish or confirm diagnosis and inform the medical rehabilitation plan.
• Establish individualized medical treatment plans, including prescriptions, orders, and procedural interventions, designed to support functional independence and safety — with patients and families actively involved in treatment planning.
• Obtain informed consent and ensure adherence to established safety protocols for all procedural interventions, which may include chemodenervation procedures and intrathecal baclofen pump programming and management.
• Deliver evidence-based medical and procedural interventions, consistent with current clinical research and best practice standards, to support functional outcomes.
• Determine and prescribe durable medical equipment, orthotics, and mobility aids as clinically indicated, in consultation with the treating disciplines and patient/caregiver.
• Provide patient and family/caregiver education tailored to each learner's needs.
• Document evaluations, treatment plans, and progress in accordance with organizational standards.
• Continuously review and adjust medical treatment plans based on patient progress, emerging evidence, and functional outcome measures.
• Lead and participate in patient discharge planning.
• Stay current on advanced rehabilitation medicine techniques and technology, integrating innovative, evidence-informed approaches into individualized treatment plans.
• Provide clinical supervision of the Nurse Practitioner in accordance with Georgia supervising-physician requirements, including oversight of prescriptive authority and delegated medical protocols.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate comprehensive, patient-centered care.
• Actively participate in program development, policy establishment, and performance improvement activities for medical services at Rise, including establishing written policies and procedures defining the roles, responsibilities, and clinical decision-making authority of physicians and advanced practice providers.
• Participate in resource utilization management, financial planning, and strategic planning activities related to physician-directed clinical services.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with referring physicians, medical community stakeholders, and payer medical directors to support program growth, referral pathways, and quality.
• Participate in advocacy activities on behalf of the organization and the population served, including engagement with professional, community, or policy-related initiatives.
• Help train and mentor new staff and medical residents, fellows, or students as assigned.
• Supports Rise's ongoing pursuit of CARF accreditation by maintaining compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards.

• Strong critical thinking and sound clinical judgment, with the ability to monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, and to effectively prioritize, organize, and manage work assignments and patient care.

• Knowledge of neurological diagnoses commonly treated in neurorehabilitation, including brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, and vestibular disorders.
• Knowledge of age-specific patient care needs across the lifespan, from pediatric to geriatric populations.
• Willingness to adapt to changing work demands and environments.

Physical Demands

• Occasional to frequent movement about the clinic and treatment areas throughout the workday, depending on caseload and treatment setting.
• Ability to assist with patient transfers and positioning as appropriate, including lifting up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 20 lbs occasionally.
• Ability to push and pull up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 20 lbs occasionally, including wheelchairs and therapy equipment.
• Repetitive hand, wrist, and upper extremity movements during procedural interventions (e.g., injections, pump programming) and documentation.
• Fine motor control and hand-eye coordination sufficient to safely and accurately perform procedural interventions such as injections and device programming.
• Ability to sit for periods of time during documentation, patient evaluations and visits, procedural interventions, and administrative tasks.
• Visual acuity sufficient to observe patient physical presentation, movement, and procedural sites, and to read clinical documentation, diagnostic imaging, and equipment displays.
• Hearing sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members, and to monitor equipment and facility alerts.

Required Education:

• MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Completed residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R).

Required Licensure / Certification:

• Active, unrestricted Georgia physician license (MD/DO).
• Board-certified in PM&R (ABPMR) or board-eligible with certification within 1 year.
• Active DEA registration.
• BLS certification (active within two (2) weeks of hire and maintained annually).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Fellowship training in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine or Brain Injury Medicine, or clinical experience with complex neurological populations.
• Experience with pediatric populations (ages 8+).
• Minimum 2 years spasticity management experience (including chemodenervation procedures and intrathecal baclofen pump programming and management).
