Position Summary: Perform a variety of duties to support the shipping & receiving function:

1. Ensure the timely and accurate shipment of outgoing freight accompanied by timely and accurate shipment status for UPS shipments and Fed Ex shipments in JDE. Responsible for performing all paperwork and MRP related activities to support the Shipping operation. Prepares Bills of Lading, coordinates freight carriers and trucking companies, communicates with Sales to provide tracking numbers and notification if shipping problems have occurred, and runs daily reports and programs to update MRP on items shipped. Strives for 100% on-time shipment of product.

2. Ensure a variety of duties to ensure the timely and accurate receiving and unloading of incoming materials. Makes certain that product received matches product on delivery documentation and accurately received into inventory. Responsible for verifying and keeping records on incoming shipments and performing all paperwork and MRP related activities to support the Receiving operation.

Essential Job Functions:


  1. Shipping

1. Perform work outlined in daily shipping schedule.

2. Communicate with the Supervisor and Operations to make sure product is ready and available to ship.

3. Follow the correct procedures to ship product when customer arranges for shipment or dictates carrier used.

4. Work closely with contracted LTL carrier(s) to follow their procedures.

5. Call specified and customer specified carriers when product is ready to ship; follow up with additional calls if carriers do not show up.

6. Create with accuracy all Bills of Lading.

7. Using JDE, enter ship dates, tracking information, carrier, and freight cost to be billed for each UPS and Fed Ex order, and ship confirm order.

8. Take pictures of UPS and Fed Ex outgoing shipments and enter details as required by auditor.

9. Scan all shipments, including freight shipments, to Laserfiche each morning.

10. Run end-of-day program.

11. Notify IT Manager and Supervisor if any troubles are encountered with carriers, run programs and reports, or use shipping software.

12. Notify Sales when carriers do not show up or if shipments are otherwise late

13. Train other Shipping personnel to perform Shipping Clerk duties to cover clerk in his/her absence.

14. Operate forklift to complete shipping duties as needed.

  1. Receiving

1. Perform daily receipts of products as outlined in receiving schedule.

2. Compare identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.

3. Unpack and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.

4. Conduct “last eyes” inspection of incoming deliveries / returns.

5. Make certain that incoming material is properly unloaded and conveyed.

6. Operate forklift, tier lift truck, hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from receiving platform to storage or department work area.

7. Make certain that buyers/planners are notified of receiving discrepancies or expected deliveries that are otherwise late. Support buyers/planners by resolving receiving issues.

8. Enter requisitions and ordering of MRO material if required by location.

9. Complete all receipts, including returns documentation and paperwork completely and accurately by the end of shift.

10. Take primary responsibility for making sure storage areas are kept clean and free of debris.


Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· 6-12 months of related experience and/or training to become familiar with procedures and practices; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· 6-12 months of experience in shipping & receiving duties.

Computer Skills

· Must be able to proficiently and accurately use shipping and MRP software necessary to perform the job, or be able to be trained to do so.

· Ability to operate a personal computer/computer data entry terminal and the ability to learn the ERP system.

· Ability to use handheld and other mobile devices to input and access data from ERP system.

· Basic working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other computer-based applications preferred.
