Job Summary


B&A is looking for a Systems Engineer to join a contract with a federal government client in support of an important mission. In this role, the Systems Engineer plays a key role in maintaining and optimizing the organization’s IT infrastructure. This position involves the design, installation, configuration, and ongoing management of systems hardware, software, and databases. The engineer ensures operational stability, security, and compliance while contributing to technical innovation and continuous improvement. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and clear communication skills to support both technical teams and business objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure components.
  • Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting for servers, databases, and enterprise applications.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of system and database upgrades, patches, and migrations.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain detailed system documentation, including configurations, project plans, and test results.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for system issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement infrastructure solutions supporting business goals.
  • Research and recommend innovative approaches to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Communicate technical information, project status, and complex concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Education and Experience

  • Five (5) years of overall professional experience in the engineering field.

Required Skills

  • Must have at least five (5) years of experience working with DoD or Federal IT systems.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in Oracle and/or SQL Server database administration and analysis support.
  • Strong knowledge of systems hardware, software, and infrastructure components.
  • Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of servers, operating systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Hands-on experience with database management and support (installation, tuning, backup/recovery).
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for complex system issues.
  • Familiarity with system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of IT security principles and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to document system configurations, project plans, and test results.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with cloud-based platforms and virtualization (e.g., AWS, Azure, VMware).
  • Familiarity with automation, scripting, and configuration management tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions.
  • Familiarity with DoD or federal IT standards (e.g., NIST, DISA STIGs).
  • Experience in research and development or technical innovation projects.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and support complex project planning.

Security Clearance

  • Active Secret Clearance

Certifications

  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification.
  • IAT Level II training and certification (per DFARS 252.239-7001 for federal IT roles).
  • Microsoft or Linux administration certifications (e.g., MCSA, RHCSA) preferred.
  • Cloud-related certifications a plus (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator).
  • Vendor-specific certifications based on environment (e.g., Oracle OCA/OCP if Oracle databases are involved).
