About the Opportunity

We're looking for an organized and dependable Freight Coordinator to help manage the daily movement of products in and out of our Ohio distribution facility.

This position will coordinate shipments, communicate with carriers and freight brokers, track deliveries, prepare shipping documentation, and work closely with our warehouse and internal teams to make sure products get where they need to go safely, efficiently, and on time.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who can stay organized in a fast-moving environment, solve transportation problems as they arise, and balance customer service, delivery requirements, and freight cost.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound freight shipments.
  • Schedule pickups and deliveries with carriers, freight brokers, customers, and vendors.
  • Obtain and compare freight quotes and help select appropriate carriers based on cost, service, and delivery requirements.
  • Confirm customer delivery requirements and any special handling needs before shipments are scheduled.
  • Prepare and maintain bills of lading and other required shipping documentation.
  • Track shipments and provide updates on delivery status.
  • Communicate delays, damages, missed pickups, and other transportation issues to the appropriate teams.
  • Work closely with warehouse personnel to coordinate loading, unloading, and shipment schedules.
  • Communicate with Sales and Customer Service regarding shipment status and customer delivery requirements.
  • Research and resolve freight billing discrepancies and unexpected freight charges.
  • Manage and follow through on freight claims involving damaged, lost, or delayed shipments.
  • Maintain accurate freight, carrier, and shipment records.
  • Help identify and prevent avoidable accessorial charges, including detention, re-delivery, liftgate, residential, and limited-access charges.
  • Monitor carrier performance, freight costs, and service levels.
  • Help identify opportunities to reduce freight costs and improve transportation efficiency.
  • Coordinate expedited shipments when necessary.
  • Assist with routing and consolidation of shipments when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate shipment and freight information in ERP, shipping, and related systems.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with carriers, brokers, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Support other logistics and operational responsibilities as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Additional education or training in logistics, transportation, supply chain, or business is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience in freight coordination, logistics, transportation, shipping, distribution, or a related field required.
  • Experience working with LTL, truckload, and small-parcel shipments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of bills of lading and basic freight/shipping documentation.
  • Understanding of freight rates, accessorial charges, carrier service levels, and common transportation issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities at the same time.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with carriers, brokers, customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly when transportation issues arise.
  • Ability to take ownership of freight issues and follow them through to resolution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Experience with ERP, TMS, shipping, or inventory systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a team.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position at our Washington Court House, Ohio facility.

The position primarily works in an office environment with regular interaction with warehouse operations.

The role requires frequent communication with carriers, brokers, customers, vendors, and internal departments.
