Housing Specialists help ensure housing programs run effectively, efficiently, and in compliance, while making sure THA clients and partners receive high-quality service.
What You’ll Do
- Administer housing programs including Housing Choice Vouchers, Project-Based Vouchers, and other rental assistance programs.
- Determine eligibility, calculate rent, verify information, and process leasing and recertifications.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local housing regulations.
- Foster positive connections with community groups, property owners, and potential residents.
- Work closely with Client Support and Empowerment staff to assist families at risk of eviction or termination.
- Work with team members on assigned tasks, process reports and correspondence related to leasing, recertification, and portability.
- Respond to inquiries about housing programs, eligibility, and policies.
- Mediate issues between property owners, residents, and the agency’s programs. Respond to complaints and provide general leasing information.
- Investigate and develop documentation for all programs, compute property owners' HAP payments, and handle repayment agreements.
- Perform all duties with integrity, maintain professional relationships, adapt to department changes, and uphold confidentiality.
Who You Are
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years related work experience, program planning and implementation preferably in social services delivery.
- Fair housing and reasonable accommodation experience.
- Experience or knowledge of housing choice vouchers or HUD programs and low-income housing; experience interpreting federal rules and regulations.
- Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, and maintain confidentiality.
- Skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking, and managing multiple priorities.
- You value teamwork, integrity, and service excellence.
- Housing authority or tax credit housing experience preferred.
- Experience working with Yardi preferred.
- Housing choice voucher or affordable housing certifications such as Nan McKay Certified Housing Specialist preferred.

Important Position and Recruitment Information:
- Position is open for applications through 01/09/26.
- This position is based on-site and requires in-person attendance at THA’s main building at 902 S L St during the 120-day probation period. With supervisor approval and depending on business need, this position *may* be eligible for a hybrid schedule (part remote, part in-office) upon successfully completing probation. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not guaranteed.
- Pay rate:
- When hired, external candidates start at $32.98/hr ($68,600/yr).
- Current THA employees who transfer into this position follow the salary schedule in the OPEIU collective bargaining agreement. If transferring within the same pay grade, employee’s pay rate stays the same.
