Senior Construction Superintendent
Job Description
Job Description
If you are the superintendent other GCs call when a project is on fire, this will likely be the best role you see in the next 5 years.
We build complex, schedule‐critical projects on active military installations. High security, heavy compliance, zero hand‐holding. You get real authority, a leadership team that backs you, and projects you can be proud to put your name on.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are hiring a Senior Construction Superintendent to own day‐to‐day field execution on federal / DoD projects (typical range: $1M–$10M+). You are the on‐site “CEO” of the job: safety, schedule, quality, coordination, and government interface all roll up to you.
Location: Oahu, Hawaii (field-based on military installations; limited travel as required)
Employment: Full‐time, exempt
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Run the jobsite from mobilization through closeout, start to finish.
- Build and manage the 3‐week look‐ahead schedule and align subs, suppliers, and inspections to it.
- Lead daily huddles and weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors and the government team.
- Enforce EM 385 and site‐specific safety plans; stop work authority is yours, and you use it.
- Maintain high‐quality work in line with plans, specs, and QC plans; walk the work constantly.
- Coordinate all field activities with the Project Manager (RFIs, submittals, changes, procurement).
- Keep site paperwork tight: daily reports, manpower logs, delivery tickets, photos, and documentation.
- Host government representatives (NAVFAC / USACE / AFCEC etc.) on walks, meetings, and inspections.
- Drive punch‐list completion, commissioning, and closeout so the project finishes clean.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN 12 MONTHS
- You have taken at least one project from NTP to substantial completion with 0 recordables and 0 missed contractual milestones.
- The contracting officer and COR request you by name on their next project.
- Your jobs are within or ahead of the budgeted schedule and gross margin targets.
- Field issues get solved at your level; you escalate only when it truly needs executive air cover.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 5+ years as a lead Superintendent on ground‐up, renovation, or infrastructure projects.
- Direct experience working on active military bases or federal projects (NAVFAC / USACE / VA / AF).
- Proven track record running projects in the $1M–$10M+ range with responsibility for schedule and site operations.
- Deep understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and field problem‐solving.
- Strong command of jobsite safety (EM 385, OSHA), quality control, and subcontractor management.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and submittals and catch problems before they hit the field.
- Competence with basic construction software (Procore or similar), email, and digital documentation.
- U.S. work authorization and ability to obtain base access / security badging.
THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR YOU IF
- You need someone else to build your schedule and tell you what to do each day.
- You avoid hard conversations with subs or the owner when things slip.
- You want a “desk job” or to manage projects from behind a screen instead of walking the work.
- You view safety and documentation as paperwork instead of part of building professionally.
WHAT YOU GET
- Competitive base salary commensurate with experience, plus performance‐based bonus tied to schedule, safety, and project profitability.
- Health benefits and retirement plan (details to be provided in interview).
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Relocation support for the right candidate.
- A backlog of real work on active bases, not “hope and maybes.”
- A leadership team that understands federal construction, runs a disciplined operation, and wants supers who own outcomes, not just tasks.
\nCompany Description
TCG Construction, Inc. (The Core Group) is a veteran‑owned general contractor that specializes in “military‑grade” commercial construction in two theaters: Hawaii and Idaho. We build and renovate mission‑critical facilities on active military installations (NAVFAC, USACE, Air Force) and for State of Hawaii agencies, typically in the $1M–$12M range. Our model is low‑volume, high‑ticket: a focused portfolio of complex projects where schedule, safety, and quality standards are non‑negotiable. We self‑perform key scopes, maintain audited financials and strong bonding, and are known by contracting officers and owners as the team that quietly delivers on time, on budget, and with minimal drama. The company has ~30 employees, is growing, and is deliberately building the leadership bench and systems so that field leaders can “own” outcomes with real support behind them.
