Role Description The Police Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in or near New Bern, NC, serving the Town of River Bend community. Day-to-day responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas, responding to calls for service, enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and promoting public safety through visible presence and community interaction. The role involves conducting preliminary investigations, collecting and preserving evidence, preparing accurate incident and arrest reports, and testifying in court as required. Police Officers are expected to build positive relationships with residents and businesses, participate in community outreach, and work collaboratively with other law enforcement and emergency services. The position requires adherence to departmental policies, continuous training, and maintaining the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and respect for all individuals.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices, including experience or training as Police Officers within a Police department.
  • \n

  • Ability to conduct criminal investigations, including gathering, documenting, and preserving Evidence in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
  • \n

  • Experience applying Law Enforcement procedures, policies, and regulations in various situations while exercising sound judgment and discretion.
  • \n

  • Familiarity with Police operations such as patrol, traffic enforcement, responding to emergencies, and community policing activities.
  • \n

  • High school diploma or equivalent; advanced education in criminal justice or related field is beneficial.
  • \n

  • Completion of state-required basic law enforcement training and ability to obtain and maintain relevant certifications and licenses.
  • \n

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and interaction with diverse community members.
  • \n

  • Ability to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and perform physically demanding tasks as required by the role.
  • \n

  • Commitment to integrity, impartiality, and compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and ethical standards.
  • \n

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to pass background checks, medical evaluations, and any required fitness assessments.
