Assistant Security Guard (Seasonal)

Salary Range: $14.00 To $14.00 Hourly

Reports To: Director of Safety and Security FLSA Status: Seasonal, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Purpose:

The seasonal Assistant Security Officer helps with security operations for the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, preserving a safe environment for employees, visitors and property.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Follows all security policies, protocols and procedures
  • Primarily serves as a parking lot attendant for safe and timely parking by patrons, directing vehicle flow during high-volume days to optimize parking space usage
  • Assist guests with accessible parking needs and entering facility, if needed
  • Monitor for and report unauthorized parking or suspicious activity to Security
  • Identify and report cleanliness issues (litter, debris) to Grounds team
  • Report pavement issues, signage damage, or lighting problems to Maintenance
  • Place safety cones/barriers as needed for temporary closures or hazards
  • Provide basic information about zoo entry points and amenities
  • Support emergency vehicle access when required
  • Document and report incidents via radio/designated systems
  • When parking lot duties are not necessary and as directed, makes regular rounds during hours of operation within the park to assist visitors with wayfinding and any questions .
  • Provides golf cart escort for guests needing assistance within the park.
  • Is familiar with emergency management and contingency planning. Participate in regular drills.
  • Works collaboratively with Visitor Services to assist guests.

  • Attendance, Punctuality and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.

  • Provides excellent customer service in the areas of guest relations and park beautification:
  • Answers visitor inquiries or finds someone who can;
  • Is knowledgeable of location of exhibits, restrooms, concessions, rentals, etc.
  • Disposes of litter and waste throughout the park and zoo facilities.

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills:

  • Prior security or parking experience or similar position is a plus, but not required
  • Experience using relevant technology and equipment (e.g. CCTV).
  • Experience in reporting and emergency response.
  • Knowledge of security protocols and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Committed and reliable
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to stand and walk for long periods of time on even and uneven surfaces. The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance. The ability to sit, squat and walk for extended periods. The ability to work in normal and inclement weather conditions.
  • Available to work regular days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
