Job Description

Higher Education & Non-Profit Partner / Senior Attorney / Lateral Partner (500K+ Portable book) / Equity Track, Income Partner (750K+ Portable book)

About the Opportunity

A well-established, full-service Boston-based law firm recognized for its collegial culture, sophisticated client base, and entrepreneurial approach to legal practice is expanding its presence in the higher education and non-profit sectors. We are seeking an experienced attorney to help lead that growth by building on existing relationships with colleges, universities, and mission-driven institutions across New England.

The firm recently welcomed a partner who served as Chief Legal Counsel to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, creating significant new opportunities in government relations, regulatory, and institutional work. This is an exciting time to join and help shape a growing practice.

The Opportunity

We are building a dedicated higher education and non-profit practice that goes beyond tangential construction or investigation work. We are looking for an attorney who presents credibly and deeply as a higher education lawyer-someone who can expand relationships with colleges and universities across transactional, regulatory, governance, real estate, and general counsel matters.

This is a relationship-driven role with strong institutional support and a genuine opportunity to help shape the future of the practice.

Responsibilities

  • Handle transactional and real estate matters for colleges, universities, and non-profit organizations
  • Advise institutional clients on governance, regulatory compliance, and general counsel matters
  • Support government relations and public policy initiatives
  • Counsel higher education institutions on construction and development projects
  • Develop and expand relationships with colleges, universities, and non-profit organizations throughout New England

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Active Massachusetts Bar membership (or ability to waive in)
  • 7+ years of legal experience with substantial work representing higher education institutions, non-profits, or other mission-driven organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted advisor to university or non-profit leadership
  • Portable business preferred for partner-level candidates; attorneys with an emerging $500K+ practice or established $750K+ book are encouraged to apply
  • Strong background in transactional, real estate, corporate, or regulatory matters
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial mindset with a strong emphasis on cultural fit

Why Join

  • Entrepreneurial, collaborative culture with significant autonomy
  • Opportunity to build and shape a growing higher education and non-profit practice
  • Strong government and institutional relationships
  • Flexible work environment focused on client service rather than office attendance
  • Long-term growth opportunities within a respected regional firm
