Job Description

At AKS Engineering & Forestry, we’re all about building better communities—literally. We help shape neighborhoods, create spaces for businesses, and design the infrastructure that makes life better for everyone. As a locally owned firm, we’ve spent the past 30 years partnering with public and private clients to deliver high-quality engineering solutions across the Pacific Northwest.

If you’re looking for the opportunity to lead meaningful water infrastructure projects and help shape the future of a growing team, this is it. As a Senior Water Engineer at AKS, you’ll guide the design and delivery of water systems that serve cities, counties, and communities across the Pacific Northwest. You’ll also have the freedom to grow your leadership skills, mentor junior staff, and help expand our Public Works practice from your home office location.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead planning, design, and execution of water production, treatment, storage, and distribution projects
  • Build strong relationships with public agency clients by understanding their needs and delivering high-quality results
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with internal teams like survey, natural resources, and construction support
  • Develop scopes, budgets, and schedules for projects across Oregon and Washington (focus on your local area)
  • Prepare and review specifications, technical reports, and project documentation
  • Depending on your experience, contribute to business development and manage entire project life cycles

Who You Are

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Oregon or Washington—or eligible within 6 months
  • 10+ years of experience in water infrastructure design (production, treatment, storage, and/or distribution)
  • Skilled in AutoCAD Civil 3D and water modeling software like WaterCAD
  • Excellent communicator who enjoys building trust with clients and mentoring the next generation of engineers
  • Familiar with national design guidelines (AWWA, EPA, etc.) and adept at summarizing complex technical info
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with Oregon and Washington public agencies
  • Background in trenchless technologies or utility master planning
  • Experience managing full projects, including budget, schedule, and client communications
  • Familiar with Bluebeam Revu and other project delivery tools
  • Confident public speaker comfortable presenting to stakeholders, councils, or boards
