Summary
Mālamalama Waldorf School is seeking a warm, dependable Early Childhood Assistant to support our Afterschool Teacher in caring for children ages 3–6. This part-time position involves supervising play, supporting daily rhythms, and helping maintain a safe and nurturing environment rooted in Waldorf early childhood principles. Applicants must have or be in the process of obtaining a DHS Assistant Registry Card. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who loves working with young children and is interested in Waldorf education.
Duties
Provide attentive and compassionate care to children ages 3–6
Support the afterschool teacher with daily routines, transitions, and cleanup
Maintain a safe, clean, and peaceful classroom and play environment
Observe and respond to the individual needs of children with warmth and consistency
Assist with snack preparation and light housekeeping tasks
Supervise indoor and outdoor play, ensuring safety at all times
Model respectful communication and behavior
Communicate professionally and kindly with parents and colleagues
Follow all school and licensing policies and procedures
Requirements
Must have or be in the process of obtaining a DHS Assistant Registry Card

Experience working with young children (ages 3–6) in a group setting preferred
Warm, nurturing, and reliable presence
Ability to follow established routines and provide gentle guidance
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and families
Willingness to learn about and support Waldorf early childhood education principles
Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred
Able to meet the physical demands of supervising young children (lifting, bending, outdoor play)
Must pass a background check and meet all state licensing requirements
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with or interest in Waldorf education and philosophy
- Prior experience in a licensed preschool or childcare setting
- Training in early childhood development or education
- Waldorf early childhood assistant training or certification
- Creative skills such as music, storytelling, handwork, or movement games
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities
- Strong observation skills and understanding of child development
- Flexibility to occasionally sub or support during school-day hours if needed
