Terms: Full-Time, Exempt (Employed by the Client)
Reports To: Program Leadership / Technical Lead
Schedule: Standard Business Hours (flexibility may be required based on mission needs)
Compensation: $140,000 – $275,000 annually (Level 2)

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a mission-focused organization to identify a Systems Administrator (SF) — Level 2 supporting a Maryland customer delivering cross domain solutions. This role is designed for a senior systems administrator with strong Linux expertise who can ensure secure, reliable operations across enterprise IT environments—driving troubleshooting, performance, and escalated support in a classified setting.

Job Overview

The Systems Administrator (Level 2) will support the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems—particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or derivatives)—and will provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support, deep troubleshooting, and system performance improvements. The role includes managing system infrastructure, day-to-day operations, monitoring, escalation communications, and configuration of UNIX/Windows operating systems and related components to improve reliability and performance.

Key ResponsibilitiesIT Operations, Monitoring & Infrastructure Support (30%)

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Manage IT system infrastructure and related operational processes.
  • Support day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution across client/server/storage/network devices and mobile devices.

Tier 1 / Tier 2 Support, Troubleshooting & Escalation (30%)

  • Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution.
  • Provide in-depth troubleshooting support for escalated tickets, including detailed analysis and feedback to agency management and internal customers.
  • Support escalation communications and status reporting to agency management and internal customers.

Configuration Management & System Reliability (25%)

  • Manage daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems; assist users in accessing and using IT systems.
  • Configure and manage UNIX and Windows (or applicable) operating systems; install/load OS software; troubleshoot; maintain integrity; configure network components.
  • Implement OS enhancements to improve system reliability and performance.

Capacity Planning & Optimization (15%)

  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization; perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Support dispatch system and hardware issues and remain involved through resolution.

Job Scope

This role supports mission-critical IT environments where stability, responsiveness, and secure operations are essential. The Level 2 Systems Administrator is expected to operate with minimal oversight, resolve complex incidents, improve performance and reliability, and provide clear communication to technical teams and government stakeholders in a classified environment.

Skills & ExperienceMinimum Qualifications (Level 2)

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Security Clearance: TS/SCI with Poly (required).
  • Linux experience is required (all levels), including support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or derivatives).
  • Education/Experience (Level 2):
    • High School diploma with 15 years of Systems Administrator experience OR
    • Bachelor's degree with 10 years of Systems Administrator experience in programs/contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
    • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide Tier 1/Tier 2 support, deep troubleshooting, and escalated ticket resolution with high-quality analysis and customer communication.
  • Experience managing infrastructure operations across compute/storage/network components and implementing reliability/performance improvements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active certification related to Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration; RHCE must be obtained after 6 months of hire (per program requirement).
