We are seeking experienced Pipe Welders for our Norfolk, Virginia location to perform high-quality welding on pipe, plating, fabricated components, and marine structural assemblies in a shipyard environment.

The Pipe Welder will use multiple welding processes and equipment to weld a variety of metals and pipe configurations in accordance with blueprints, specifications, welding procedures, and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong pipe-welding experience and be proficient in multiple welding positions and processes, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW (TIG), and air carbon arc gouging.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S Citizenship required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of journeyman level pipe welder experience.
  • Weld a variety of metal surfaces, pipe, plating, castings, forgings, and fabricated components using multiple welding processes and equipment.
  • Perform welding in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
  • Perform welding using FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW/TIG processes.
  • Prepare welding surfaces by cleaning, grinding, fitting, and preheating as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform 6G restricted-position pipe welding

Assessment

The following hands on assessment will be conducted:


1. Carbon Steel - FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding) Welding process in the horizontal, vertical and overhead position (2G, 3G and 4G)
2. 6G GTAW pipe butt test with CUNI, CRES, and Carbon Steel Overhead and Vertical pipe socket tests with CUNI, CRES, and Carbon Steel
All plates will be assessed using the x-ray method.

Unique/Additional Requirements

  • Must be available and willing to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, overtime, and varying schedules as required.
  • Must be comfortable and capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and in other challenging shipyard environments.
  • Must be physically capable of frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, reaching, bending, and performing repetitive manual tasks.
  • Must have sufficient visual and auditory ability to safely perform assigned duties, recognize warning signals, and identify hazards.
  • Must maintain a high level of safety awareness and consistently follow company, shipyard, OSHA, and customer safety requirements.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
