As a Shift Lead, youll play a key role in maintaining quality, consistency, and team energy during your shifts. Youre the right hand to the Coffee Shop Lead and the go-to support for baristas and cashiers. You lead by example, keep standards high, and make sure every shift runs like a well-pulled espresso shot—smooth, balanced, and full of good flavor.
This is a great step-up role for baristas looking to take on more leadership and responsibility in a fast-paced, coffee-loving environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Quality Control

Ensure drinks, food, and customer service consistently meet Birch Coffees standards.

Coach and support team members to deliver top-tier beverages and experiences.

Regularly taste and evaluate drinks for quality and consistency.

Leadership by Example

Demonstrate expert barista skills and warm, welcoming customer service.

Uphold company protocols (punctuality, dress code, service, etc.).

Confidently open or close the store and guide the team through smooth transitions.

Train and mentor new team members using company SOPs.

Product Knowledge

Understand coffee offerings, roasting dates, and storage best practices.

Stay informed about food offerings and communicate allergen/ingredient info clearly.

Maintain First In, First Out systems to reduce waste and ensure freshness.

Communication

Share updates on promos, products, or procedures with the team clearly and consistently.

Offer kind, honest, and effective feedback to elevate team performance.

Collaborate with your Coffee Shop Lead to ensure everyone is in the loop.
