We are Para la Naturaleza, a nonprofit environmental organization based in Puerto Rico, and we are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team. This role provides legal support to the organization by drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and administering contracts, agreements, and related legal documents; mitigating legal risk; and supporting compliance with applicable laws and regulations affecting institutional operations.
Key Responsibilities

Provide legal counsel and practical guidance to leaders and teams on a broad range of institutional matters, translating legal risk into clear, actionable recommendations.

Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, amendments, notices, and other legal instruments to protect organizational interests.

Maintain accurate contract records and ensure timely renewals, extensions, and close-out documentation, with strong version control and secure filing practices.

Prepare legal documents, executive summaries, and written recommendations to support decision-making and documentation standards.

Support negotiations, dispute resolution, and mediation efforts with third parties (vendors, contractors, and partners), ensuring appropriate documentation.

Stay current on relevant laws and regulations and communicate implications and recommended actions to internal stakeholders.
QualificationsEducation

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution.
Experience
-
Minimum of five (5) years of legal practice or equivalent experience, including contract drafting/negotiation and legal risk management.
Skills & Competencies

Strong legal writing and document analysis skills.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Bilingual (Spanish/English), with the ability to draft and negotiate in both languages.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency with productivity tools and document management systems.
Licenses & Requirements

Active admission to practice law in Puerto Rico.

Valid driver’s license.

Availability to work extended hours, weekends/holidays, and travel as needed.
