Assistant Controller:

\n

- $2B AUM PE Firm -- Investing in Tech/Software

\n

- $160,000 -170,000 + Bonus

\n

- One of those special roles that don't come around too often. The CFO is handling all accounting and is looking for his Right Hand. They are growing rapidly, raising new Funds, and have started looking into building their Acct/Fin Dept. You will be a foundational Pillar for this Firm.

\n

- They utilize an Admin for both Fund and Mgmt Co. accounting. They are looking to bring the Mgmt Co. side in-house.

\n

- Overall this is an opportunity to come in, work on all things accounting at a growing PE Fund that specializes in the Tech sector. Growth path to Controller as well.

\n

- Ideal background is someone that has both Fund Accounting and Mgmt Co. Accounting out of a small to midsize Fund. However, if you have Fund Accounting and need to learn the Mgmt. side, that can work. They are open to candidates right out of Public (must audit Funds) and candidates out of Fund Admin (PE).

Position Overview:

\n

A rapidly growing middle-market private equity firm specializing in B2B technology and tech-enabled services is seeking an Assistant Controller to serve as its inaugural internal accounting hire. Following a period of key strategic expansion, this position offers an experienced fund and management company finance professional the chance to work directly with the CFO and build out the firm's core accounting, reporting, and operational framework.

Fund Accounting & Third-Party Administrator Oversight

\n

    \n
  • Serve as the primary operational link between the CFO and the external fund administrator to direct accounting and reporting operations.
  • \n

  • Review and sign off on capital calls, distribution calculations, waterfall allocations, and quarterly financial statements.
  • \n

  • Analyze limited partnership agreements (LPAs) to ensure proper execution of fee structures, carry allocations, and accounting provisions.
  • \n

  • Support investment-level accounting across various entity types, including special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and co-investment vehicles.
  • \n

  • Validate allocation schedules and oversee the accuracy of investor capital accounts.
  • \n

  • Facilitate year-end financial audits and quarterly valuation workflows in coordination with investment leads.
  • \n

Management Company Accounting & Operations

\n

  • Assume end-to-end responsibility for day-to-day general ledger operations for the management company and associated GP entities.
  • \n

  • Lead the operational transition of management company accounting from the third-party administrator to an in-house function.
  • \n

  • Oversee financial reporting, cash management, bank reconciliations, expense processing, and monthly balance sheet accruals.
  • \n

  • Design, implement, and refine accounting workflows, internal control frameworks, and financial infrastructure as the platform scales.
  • \n

Tax & Audit Support

\n

    \n
  • Coordinate with external audit and tax advisors to manage compliance reporting and year-end audit workflows.
  • \n

  • Assist with partnership tax returns, K-1 preparation, and underlying allocation schedules.
  • \n

  • Prepare tax-related documentation and support schedules required for regulatory filings.
  • \n

Key Qualifications:

\n

Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a core background in private equity, venture capital, or alternative investment management.

\n

Technical Expertise: Demonstrated command of both fund and management company accounting practices.

\n

Administrator Oversight: Direct experience monitoring, reviewing, and evaluating work delivered by third-party fund administrators.

\n

Tax Exposure: Working knowledge of partnership taxation and K-1 processing, with a desire to deepen tax domain expertise.

\n

Mindset: Self-starter with an entrepreneurial drive, strong attention to detail, and comfort operating autonomously within a lean team environment.
