Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) / Director of Behavioral Health / MAT Program Director

Location: Harrisville, WV, with work at regional centers in St. Marys, Parkersburg, and West Union, WV

Job Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $130,000-$170,000 annually, depending on skills and experience

Sign-On Bonus/Relocation Assistance: Negotiable

Key Responsibilities

Psychiatric Clinical Care

  • Conduct outpatient psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and medication management for adolescents and adults experiencing behavioral, emotional, and mental health disorders.

  • Assess, diagnose, and develop individualized treatment plans based on established clinical guidelines and patient needs.

  • Prescribe, recommend, adjust, or discontinue medications and treatments within the authorized scope of practice.

  • Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies as clinically indicated.

  • Coordinate patient care with primary care providers, therapists, counselors, social workers, case managers, and other members of the treatment team.

  • Support integrated behavioral and physical healthcare through patient education, preventive care, and ongoing follow-up.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, treatment plans, progress notes, billing records, and required reports.

  • Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, caregivers, and colleagues while protecting patient confidentiality.

Director of Behavioral Health

  • Oversee the administration, performance, and ongoing development of behavioral health services.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the behavioral health team, promoting high-quality, patient-centered care.

  • Develop and implement program policies, procedures, and operational improvements.

  • Lead strategic planning and initiatives to sustain and grow behavioral health services.

  • Support recruitment and development of behavioral health providers and other team members.

  • Collaborate with executive leadership and the finance team on departmental budgets, grants, billing operations, and financial performance.

  • Monitor program effectiveness, service quality, and compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, and documentation requirements.

  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, social service agencies, and other regional partners.

  • Prepare and maintain departmental reports, records, and performance evaluations.

  • Promote collaboration, staff education, and continuous quality improvement across behavioral health services.

MAT Program Director - Office-Based Medication-Assisted Treatment (OBMAT)

  • Oversee the operational and programmatic aspects of the office-based medication-assisted treatment program.

  • Supervise and coordinate the program's medical services within the assigned scope of responsibility and established organizational oversight structure.

  • Develop, implement, and periodically review clinical policies and procedures for patient admission, treatment, monitoring, and discharge.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing medication-assisted treatment.

  • Coordinate MAT services with behavioral health providers, primary care teams, counselors, and community partners.

  • Support staff training and continuing education related to substance use disorder treatment and MAT.

  • Evaluate program quality, patient outcomes, and patient safety, including measures to prevent medication diversion.

  • Monitor program performance and communicate relevant findings and recommendations to organizational leadership.

  • Maintain continuing education in substance use disorder treatment and medication-assisted treatment.

The Chief Medical Officer retains final clinical oversight. The MAT Program Director is primarily responsible for program-level oversight, coordination, policies, and operational guidance.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current West Virginia Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license with prescriptive authority.

  • National certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

  • Knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management.

  • Knowledge of behavioral health services, professional ethics, patient confidentiality, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment and medication-assisted treatment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with applicable billing and reporting requirements.

Preferred:

  • Approximately 3-5 years of leadership experience for candidates pursuing the combined Director of Behavioral Health role.

  • Demonstrated ability to sustain, develop, and grow a behavioral health program.

  • Previous behavioral health administration, program management, or clinical team leadership experience.

  • Experience with MAT/OBMAT program oversight or substance use disorder treatment.

  • Additional MAT/SUD-related certifications or credentials.

  • DEA registration appropriate to the position's prescribing responsibilities.

Candidates with MAT/SUD experience who have not previously served as an MAT Program Director may still be considered. Candidates without prior formal Director experience may also be considered if they demonstrate strong leadership potential and relevant experience, although prior leadership is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary of $130,000-$170,000, depending on skills and experience.
