The Smithsonian Museums and the National Zoo in Washington DC are currently seeking experienced and friendly Temporary Retail Associates to deliver excellent customer service in our Museum and Zoo Stores, Carousel and Theaters. Our Retail Associates represent the Smithsonian Institution and deliver top-notch service to our visitors from around the world!

We offer a commuter assistance subsidy to help with commuting expenses, a competitive wage, an exciting work environment and convenient, metro-accessible locations. Smithsonian Museums and the Zoo close in the early evening, so no late retail nights!

What you bring:

  • At least 6 months of retail and/or customer service experience
  • Superior Customer Service Skills
  • Merchandise Replenishment

  • Visual Merchandising
  • Loss Prevention
  • Accurate Cash Handling

We are looking for friendly people who love to smile, and dependability is a must! An appreciation for or interest in Museums, Aviation, Science, Animals, History and/or Culture a plus!

Important stuff:

Candidates must be available Weekends and Holidays - No exceptions!

Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 lbs, stand for long periods of time, and have the ability to operate a computerized cash register system. Our Zoo employees may be working outside under varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions – both hot and cold, will be standing and walking for long periods of time over uneven and hilly terrain, and may work in a confined and limited space.
