Position Overview


The Medical Group is seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize our database environments supporting clinical, operational, and financial systems. This role is responsible for ensuring the performance, security, availability, and integrity of mission-critical healthcare data systems, including electronic medical records (EMR/EHR), billing platforms, and reporting tools.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Microsoft SQL Server administration within a healthcare environment and a solid understanding of HIPAA compliance and healthcare data security requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases across development, testing, and production environments
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to optimize system efficiency
  • Design, implement, and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Manage database access, permissions, and user roles
  • Support integration and data flow between EHR/EMR systems, billing platforms, and clinical applications
  • Develop and maintain SQL scripts, stored procedures, views, and functions
  • Troubleshoot database issues, performance bottlenecks, and system failures
  • Work closely with IT teams, application developers, and clinical operations staff to support data needs
  • Assist with database upgrades, patches, and system migrations
  • Maintain documentation of database architecture, configurations, and procedures


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of SQL Server database administration experience
  • Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or newer)
  • Experience with database performance tuning and optimization
  • Knowledge of backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Experience managing large-scale databases and high transaction environments
  • Understanding of data security best practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in healthcare or medical group environments
  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Reporting Services (SSRS), or Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and healthcare reporting systems
  • Experience supporting HIPAA-compliant systems
  • Microsoft SQL Server certifications are a plus
