Database Administrator

Contract Duration: 3-6 months
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with expertise in Oracle (particularly older versions) and Microsoft SQL Server for a short-term project.
The primary responsibility of this role is to support and lead the migration of a legacy database from Oracle 8 to SQL Server. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database management, query optimization, data migration, and scripting with a focus on ensuring data integrity and system reliability. Experience with MongoDB is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, script, and test the migration of a legacy database from Oracle to SQL Server, ensuring data accuracy.
- Work with development to draft the schema design, index optimization, and query tuning for the new database.
- Document migration processes, configurations, changes, and best practices for future reference.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with hands-on expertise in Oracle and SQL Server.
- Proven experience in migrating databases from Oracle to SQL Server, including schema refactoring and data type mapping.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL for writing and optimizing complex queries and stored procedures.
- Experience with query optimization and indexing in Oracle and SQL Server environments.
- Strong communication skills to document processes effectively and collaborate with a cross-functional team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Quest TOAD for working with Oracle.
- Experience with PowerShell for automation tasks.
- Experience with MongoDB is a plus.
