Maintenance Technician
We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Maintenance Technician to perform routine and emergency field service work related to meter installations, servicing, and customer support. This role involves using digital task management systems to document and complete daily assignments accurately and efficiently. The technician will also be responsible for upholding safety protocols, supporting team training, and ensuring a high level of customer service in all interactions.
As a Maintenance Technician, you will be expected to perform the following:
Responsibilities Include:
- Use the digital task management system to update customer account records with real-time progress on field activities.
- Log all completed fieldwork accurately using digital workflows.
- Ensure all service notes are detailed, complete, and actionable for future reference.
- Review dispatcher notes and account data to prepare for investigations and tasks.
- Independently complete residential meter installations and assist with commercial (intermediate and large) meter installations.
- Always verify the proper tools are on hand before beginning work.
- Install and troubleshoot meters per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Respond to meter maintenance requests and customer complaints within the designated response time.
- Communicate completed work to customers via doorhangers and escalate discrepancies in customer accounts or field activity data as needed.
- Complete at least 90% of daily field tasks; communicate incomplete tasks to supervisors and dispatchers, and document all completed work.
- Consistently adhere to all UMS Safety Guidelines and SOPs.
- Participate in mandatory safety training and review protocols, policy updates, and assignments in KPA.
- Stay up to date with evolving SOPs, especially related to service turn-ons and shut-offs.
- Reduce service shut-off errors by cross-referencing policy changes with customer account data.
- Be prepared to perform routine meter service at the start of any investigation.
- Training & Team Support
- Train new technicians in using the digital task management system effectively.
- Assist in onboarding and mentoring new hires in both field operations and safety procedures.
- Help with installing commercial meters when additional team support is needed.
- Provide peer training on residential and commercial installations.
UMS will provide step-by-step training to help you succeed.

Job Qualifications:
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must have and maintain a vehicle & proof of insurance.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Wear a company-approved uniform and required PPE, which is provided by the company.
- Field maintenance or meter installation experience preferred.
- Familiarity with digital task management systems and workflows.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
- Ability to read and interpret customer account information and dispatcher instructions.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and using proper tools for meter installations.
- Excellent communication skills for documenting work and addressing customer concerns.
- Willingness to adapt to changing SOPs and field conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
