Job Title: Fire Alarm Technician

Reports To: Service Account Manager

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Job Type: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

About Allied: Allied Electric is a 50+ year electrical contractor servicing the Midwest Region in industrial, commercial, and institutional electrical and low voltage construction projects.

Job Summary:

The Fire Alarm Technician will play a crucial role in managing electrical installations, supervising crew members, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable codes. This leadership role involves coordinating work tasks, overseeing safety, and maintaining high standards of productivity and quality on the job site.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Supervision:

· Supervise and lead a team of electricians, ensuring tasks are assigned and completed in a timely and effective manner to meet Allied Electric’s productivity objectives.

· Provide direction, training, and support to crew members to ensure high performance and adherence to company standards.

· Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, promoting teamwork and accountability among all crew members.

Project Coordination and Scheduling:

· Organize and coordinate project materials, tools, and equipment to ensure the crew has what is needed to perform the job efficiently.

· Proactively plan work activities to ensure materials and resources are available, enabling the team to work without delays.

Safety and Compliance:

· Ensure all crew members are using the proper safety equipment, materials, tools, and methods to carry out their tasks.

· Maintain a safe and organized work environment, instructing the crew on safe work practices, and conducting weekly safety meetings.

· Ensure all work performed complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as federal, state, county, and local regulations.

Quality Assurance and Problem-Solving:

· Monitor the quality of work and hold crew members accountable for meeting daily production goals, quality standards, and safety protocols.

· Troubleshoot and resolve Fire Alarm System issues proactively, using a customer service approach to anticipate and address potential problems before they impact the project.

· Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, utilizing test equipment and hand tools to locate and correct issues efficiently.

Communication and Documentation:

· Effectively communicate with general contractors, project managers, and crew members to ensure the smooth flow of information and timely completion of tasks.

· Complete and submit daily forms and reports, including progress updates, material usage, and any issues encountered during the day.

· Ensure that all necessary construction documents, specifications, and submittals are reviewed and understood by the team

Team Development:

· Identify and communicate workforce needs to ensure the appropriate number of crew members are available for successful project completion.

· Mentor and develop crew members, providing guidance to help them grow professionally and maintain high standards of performance.

Job Requirements:

Education & Certifications:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· State of Michigan Journeyman Electrician license is preferred

· Minimum of 5 years of fire alarm installation experience, with proven expertise in managing teams and overseeing electrical projects.

Technical Skills:

· Proficient in reading and interpreting construction documents, including MEP drawings, architectural plans, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

· In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.

· Skilled in installing and troubleshooting various fire alarm systems.

· Proficient in using testing devices such as voltmeters and ohmmeters to ensure system compatibility and safety.

Software and Tools:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience using hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to occasionally lift objects up to 50 pounds.

· Must be capable of standing for extended periods, performing repetitive bending and squatting motions, and working in overhead conditions.

· Ability to work in tight and confined spaces and on ladders or elevated platforms.

· Willingness to work overtime or adjust schedules as needed to meet project deadlines.

Leadership and Organizational Skills:

· Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to diagnose and resolve electrical malfunctions.

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals, including contractors, management, and crew members.

· Ability to lead a team effectively, ensuring that tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and to the

highest quality standards.
