Direct Counsel is seeking a Litigation Associate to join a dynamic mid-sized firm’s Insurance Recovery & Counseling group in Washington, DC. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 3–9 years of experience who is interested in representing policyholders in complex insurance recovery and coverage matters. The firm offers a collegial environment, excellent mentorship, and a transparent, achievable path to partnership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft pleadings, briefs, and motions in state and federal court.

  • Handle discovery matters, including depositions and drafting/arguing discovery motions.

  • Manage multiple, time-sensitive projects with efficiency and attention to detail.

  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team while taking ownership of significant projects.

Qualifications:

  • 3–9 years of litigation experience.

  • Strong writing and analytical skills, with substantial experience drafting motions and briefs.

  • Discovery experience, including depositions, preferred.

  • Admission to the DC Bar (or eligibility to apply).

  • Prior insurance recovery/coverage experience is a plus, but candidates with a strong interest in the area are encouraged to apply.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $185,000 – $265,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

  • Annual billable hours expectation: 1,850 (includes up to 100 hours of approved pro bono work).
