Position/Skill Level: Law Clerk, Journeyman

Location: ON SITE - Washington DC

Rate: $40 - $42 per hour

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Eastern, 8 hours per

day. On-site support.

Scope: The Law Clerk Journeyman shall provide legal research and litigation support to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Division of Enforcement. The SEC’s Division of Enforcement utilizes a variety of data that contain current, historical and futures information about sensitive public company data, mutual fund data, and trade/quote data.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists attorneys with all phases of the litigation process.
  • Performs complex legal research for trial staff.
  • Reviews documents for relevance and privilege
  • Compiles case materials.
  • Assists in the preparation or prepares draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law.
  • Organizes information for legal forms and documents including complaints, declarations, discovery requests, responses, and other pleadings.
  • Conducts complex legal research and analysis for trial staff.
  • Reviews evidence, takes witness statements, and assists in trial preparations and investigations.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform

each essential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience with a specialty in Litigation (trial) required.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint as well Lexis Nexis and/or Westlaw.
  • Ability to provide a favorable credit history.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems.
  • Must have documented litigation trial experience to include interviewing witnesses.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing various legal documents such as motions, briefs, subpoenas, legal memoranda, and correspondence for attorneys with the ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Must have experience proofreading and cite-checking briefs and other materials.
  • Knowledge of e-discovery procedures and resources.
  • Experience conducting various types of research related to laws, legal articles, and other information relevant to a case using Lexis Nexis or Westlaw.
  • Possess a keen sense of accountability and taking ownership over projects.
  • Must be a critical thinker who displays a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing work product.
  • Ability to work effectively in an extremely pressured environment independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work concurrently on a variety of projects, flexibility in shifting focus.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
