Job Title: Cafeteria Stockroom Associate

Job Description

The Cafeteria Stockroom Associate supports hospital food service operations by managing inventory, stocking supplies, and ensuring the timely distribution of food and non-food items to the cafeteria and kitchen. This role plays a key part in maintaining efficient meal service for patients, visitors, and staff while consistently following food safety, sanitation, and hospital safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and verify deliveries of food products, beverages, paper goods, and kitchen supplies for accuracy and quality.
  • Properly store items in dry storage, refrigerators, and freezers while following food safety guidelines, including FIFO (first in, first out), accurate labeling, and dating.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary stockroom and storage areas in accordance with food safety and hospital standards.
  • Stock cafeteria and kitchen areas with necessary food, beverage, and paper supplies on a daily basis to support continuous meal service.
  • Monitor inventory levels regularly and promptly notify management of shortages, overstock, or reordering needs.
  • Rotate stock to minimize waste, prevent spoilage, and ensure product freshness.
  • Assist with routine and periodic inventory counts, cycle counts, audits, and related documentation.
  • Transport supplies and materials safely throughout the facility using carts or pallet jacks.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital safety policies, food safety regulations (including ServSafe standards), and infection control protocols.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to requests from kitchen and cafeteria staff for supplies or assistance.
  • Handle materials and products using proper material handling techniques to prevent damage and ensure safety.
  • Support overall foodservice and food production operations by maintaining an efficient, well-organized stockroom.

  • Comfort with frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, including coolers, freezers, and dry storage areas.
  • Experience or familiarity with inventory, stockroom operations, and inventory control.
  • Ability to follow hospital safety policies and infection control protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in foodservice, hospitality, or the food industry.
  • Experience in shipping and receiving or material handling.
  • Experience performing cycle counts, inventory counts, and audits.
  • Customer service experience in a cafeteria, healthcare, or similar environment.
  • Familiarity with ServSafe standards or other food safety regulations.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or hospital environment is a plus.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital cafeteria environment and may involve direct interaction with customers such as patients, visitors, and staff. The role requires frequent movement between stockrooms, dry storage, refrigerators, and freezers, with exposure to varying temperatures. Work involves continuous standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting items up to 40–50 lbs, as well as operating carts or pallet jacks to transport supplies. The schedule for this role is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and you must be open to working weekends and additional weekdays as needed to support operations. The dress code includes black pants, a collared shirt, and black slip-resistant shoes, with no fake lashes or fake nails, no facial piercings, and no hair color outside of natural tones, reflecting the safety and professionalism expected in a healthcare foodservice setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Southaven, MS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.25 - $15.25/hr.
