Our client, a well-established government services contractor, is seeking a Senior / Principal Systems Engineer (TS/Poly) to provide technical leadership on complex, mission-critical classified systems. This role is a direct-hire opportunity supporting long-term government programs in a highly secure environment.
In this position, you will lead systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle, from requirements analysis and architecture development through integration, verification, and sustainment. You will serve as a senior technical authority, ensuring system designs align with operational needs, architectural standards, and mission objectives.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Systems Engineer who thrives in large-scale, multi-stakeholder environments and is comfortable interfacing with government leadership, program management, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze user needs, CONOPS, and high-level system architectures to develop system and derived requirements

Lead system design and development activities ensuring alignment with approved architectures (e.g., DoDAF, SOA)

Provide technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology

Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation, including:
-
System Engineering Plans (SEP)
-
System Requirements Specifications (SRS)
-
Interface Control Documents (ICD)
-
System architecture and design documentation
-

Manage requirements allocation to hardware, software, facilities, and personnel components
-
Participate in and support Configuration Control Boards (CCB), design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews
-
Guide system development and implementation planning, including integration and test strategies
-
Establish verification methods, processes, and evaluation criteria to ensure systems meet requirements

Develop and assess alternative system concepts, architectures, and design solutions
-
Support interface definition, configuration management, and lifecycle change control

Ensure technical integrity of the system baseline throughout development, deployment, and O&M
-
Conduct risk assessments, trade studies, and Analysis of Alternatives (AoA)

Support DoD and Government Certification & Accreditation (C&A) and JCIDS documentation efforts

Develop operational concepts, scenarios, and system threads supporting mission objectives

Perform quantitative analysis in non-functional areas such as:

Reliability

Maintainability

Survivability

Availability

Provide technical direction for system integration, verification, and validation activities

Apply and enforce applicable agency, national, and international standards to ensure interoperability and consistency
Requirements
-
Active Top Secret clearance with an active Polygraph

Minimum 20 years of experience as a Systems Engineer supporting programs of similar scope, complexity, and classification

Demonstrated experience planning, leading, and executing Systems Engineering efforts
-
Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related technical discipline

Five (5) additional years of Systems Engineering experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree

Extensive experience working with government stakeholders on technical issues, risks, and system decisions

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including interaction with senior executives and government oversight
