As part of its Online Education Initiative (OEI)—a collaborative effort to improve student access and success through high-quality online courses—the California Community Colleges Technology Center (CCCTC) embarked on a major cloud transformation project. To ensure scalability, high availability, security, and cost efficiency, CCCTC is migrating its applications and infrastructure into a unified AWS environment.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Architecture & Security Consultant to support the CCCTC in designing, migrating, and securing its cloud infrastructure. This individual will work closely with application teams and stakeholders to execute DevOps best practices and ensure compliance with strict security standards, including NIST 800-171.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Architecture & Migration:
Design and implement a new AWS cloud architecture for the organization.
Lead the migration of multiple legacy environments (on-premises, Rackspace, and AWS) into a unified, high-performance AWS environment.
Support and optimize Dev, Test, Pilot, and Production environments.
DevOps & Systems Operations:
Collaborate with internal application teams to establish DevOps practices.
Provide SysOps, cloud monitoring, and technical support.
Assist in developing and executing the organization’s cloud strategy, including data lake, predictive analytics, and machine learning initiatives.
Security & Compliance (NIST 800-171):
Analyze current security policies, procedures, and documentation for compliance.
Develop comprehensive security plans, enhancing or creating policies as needed.
Conduct a gap analysis against all 110 NIST 800-171 controls in partnership with the CISO.
Develop a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for non-compliant or partially compliant areas.
Prioritize and assign tasks within Agile sprints based on severity and urgency.
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of corrective measures to close compliance gaps.
Additional Support Areas:
Online/helpdesk support for cloud and application-related issues.
Provide guidance on industry-standard security frameworks (FedRAMP, HIPAA, FERPA, CJIS, etc.).
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Deep hands-on experience in AWS architecture and migration strategies.
Strong background in DevOps methodologies and system administration.
Proven success implementing NIST 800-171 controls and other compliance standards.
Experience supporting public sector or educational institutions is a plus.
Ability to work across multiple teams in a collaborative, Agile environment.
