Position Title: LEARN Works After School Care Coach

Reports to: Director of Education Services

Classification: Non-exempt

Category: Part-time, seasonal

(In-Person, Monday-Friday from 2:30-6:30 pm, from mid-Aug. through mid-May, occasional extended shift)

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director of Education Services as well as in accordance with the mission of the Ada Jenkins Center, the LEARN Works After School Care Attendant will be directly responsible for providing strong, caring supervision of students at all times.

Job Qualifications:

  • At least a high school student age 16 or older.
  • Must already be familiar with or willing to learn and employ the program's philosophy utilizing Love and Logic principles in working children and families.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children.
  • Prior experience working with volunteers preferred.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • CPR and First Aid Certified. If not currently certified at the time of hire, certification can be acquired shortly after.

Position Duties, Responsibilities and Minimum Expectations:

  • Coordinate and serve snack to students.
  • Supervise students during playtime/free time and mentoring students through behavioral and social emotional challenges.
  • Double as a tutor or as an educational helper during homework time.
  • Respond to basic emergencies and look out for children's welfare.
  • Set up and break down the care space(s).
  • Track and report children's behaviors and habits, and communicate that information to the Assistant Director and parents.
  • Manage schedule of students' planned enrichment activities and collaborate on supervision of students with LEARN Works instructors.

  • Vision sufficient to read standard text and read a computer monitor.

  • Manual dexterity to use hands, arms, shoulders, repetitively to operate keyboard, to write, etc.
  • Body strength sufficient to lift and transfer at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to interact professionally with persons from a variety of backgrounds in a high stress environment.
