Job Description

Head of Legal

Midtown, NY

USD 80,000 – 200,000 + Equity

A high-growth, VC-backed AI company is hiring a Head of Legal to build and lead the legal function from the ground up. Working closely with the leadership team, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting a scaling business operating at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and highly regulated markets, with real ownership, pace, and impact from day one.

The Role

This is a key hire for a fast-growing company selling into heavily regulated enterprise customers, so the legal work is genuinely commercial, high-stakes, and central to growth.

The role will cover customer contracting, regulatory and compliance risk, and building the right legal foundations as the company expands. You’ll also play a key part in supporting corporate governance and fundraising activity, including investor processes and due diligence. It’s a hands-on, high-ownership position for someone who wants to operate as a trusted advisor to leadership and shape how the business runs from day one.

You’ll take ownership of:

  • Enterprise contract negotiation (MSAs, NDAs, commercial agreements)
  • Corporate governance, fundraising and due diligence
  • Regulatory compliance and risk management
  • Privacy, data protection and cybersecurity matters
  • Employment law and immigration support

Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience within both private practice and in-house
  • Strong academic background
  • Comfortable working at pace in a demanding, high-growth environment
  • This is an onsite role within a highly collaborative, in-person culture

Why Join?

  • Direct access to experienced founders
  • Real autonomy and responsibility
  • Competitive salary + meaningful equity
  • A rare opportunity to help build a high-growth AI business in a mission-critical sector
