Job Description: Substance Abuse Housing Supervisor
Position Title: Housing Supervisor
Department: Substance Abuse Treatment / Residential Services
Reports To: Program Director or Residential Services Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Exempt
Position Summary
The Housing Supervisor oversees the operations, staff, and resident support within the substance abuse residential housing program. This role ensures the facility is safe, structured, and aligned with treatment goals and regulatory requirements. The Housing Supervisor provides leadership to housing staff, enforces policies, supports residents in recovery, and coordinates with the clinical and administrative teams to maintain a stable, recovery-oriented environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Supervision & Staff Leadership
- Supervise housing managers, resident assistants, or support staff.
- Train new staff on program policies, documentation standards, and crisis-response procedures.
- Conduct regular team meetings, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
- Manage staff schedules, shift coverage, and timekeeping.
2. Program Operations & Compliance
- Ensure daily housing operations meet program standards, state regulations, and safety requirements.
- Oversee room checks, facility inspections, inventory management, and maintenance needs.
- Develop, implement, and enforce housing rules, procedures, and emergency protocols.
- Monitor documentation accuracy, including shift logs, incident reports, and resident files.
3. Resident Support & Accountability
- Support residents in following program rules, curfews, and treatment expectations.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and intervene in behavioral or interpersonal issues.
- Coordinate drug screenings, breathalyzer tests, and other accountability measures.
- Participate in resident orientations, housing meetings, and progress discussions.
4. Coordination with Clinical & Administrative Teams
- Communicate resident concerns, incidents, and behavioral patterns to clinical staff.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
- Ensure seamless communication between housing staff and counseling/clinical departments.
- Assist in developing program improvements, housing policies, and resident support strategies.
5. Crisis Response & Safety
- Respond to emergencies, behavioral crises, or policy violations, ensuring safety and appropriate escalation.
- Maintain compliance with fire safety, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting requirements.
- Provide guidance to staff on managing crises using de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in residential services, substance abuse programs, behavioral health, or supportive housing.
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong communication, crisis-intervention, and management skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends if needed.
- Valid driver’s license (if transportation involved).
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
Preferred
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in human services, Behavioral Health, Psychology, or related field.
- Certification such as CADC, CAC, CPRS, or Recovery Coach.
- Knowledge of recovery principles, harm-reduction, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care.
- Experience with state licensing requirements for residential treatment programs.
