Role Description Civil Engineer / Designer at AVE will support planning, design, and coordination of civil engineering projects across transportation, utilities, and commercial sectors. Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing engineering drawings and models, performing calculations for site development and stormwater systems, assisting with technical reports and specifications, and collaborating with project managers and clients to meet scope, schedule, and quality requirements. The role involves reviewing design standards, supporting permitting and regulatory compliance, and participating in field visits or inspections as needed. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in either Lombard, IL or Crown Point, IN, with a mix of in-office collaboration and some work-from-home flexibility. Team members are expected to contribute to a professional, safety-conscious environment and support AVE’s veteran-owned, client-focused culture.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering Design, with the ability to apply standards and best practices to infrastructure projects.
- Experience working as Civil Engineer or Designers on transportation, utilities, or site development projects.
- Skills in Planning for civil projects, including layout, phasing, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of Stormwater Management principles and design, including drainage, detention, and compliance with local regulations.
- Proficiency with relevant design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar) and basic office productivity tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field; EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license in progress or obtained is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
- Prior experience with construction management, client-facing roles, or public agency projects is a plus; commitment to continuous learning and professional development is expected.
